EXACTLY....republicans are afraid of the media. By giving the politicians 3 weeks extension for deadline, Trump has clear path to declare emergency. If he had done it today, he comes across as dictatorial.

I think Trump gave in to get the State of the Union speech. It will no doubt be a barn-burner of a speech. After that, probably executive order, because he still doesn’t have the votes.

The only way to save the nation now is the Julius Caesar option, but Trump has to not look like it while he is doing it. We've been a republic about as long as Rome was a republic, which is pretty good given human nature; maybe God will grant us a few more generations, but as Franklin put it, a republic is around only as long as people can keep it.
Unfortunately now it’s Trump’s fault. He agreed to nancy’s terms 100%. He could have done this to begin with...why did he make everyone suffer. That will be the message. He folded for now.
This all tells me that Trump wasn’t a revolution to take back power FROM the communist / totalitarian deep state rats, he was just a stumbling block that will only slow down the eventual communist takeover by fedgov.

Not very many if any republic has lasted longer than 200 years. I think either the USA fragments into 50 separate pieces or at least 3-4 chunks or it becomes a totalitarian “empire” ala. Roman Empire.
Republics are unstable because the human vices can not co-exist with the desires of human virtue and the unholy mixture of both will lead to destruction after those who created it all have been dead for several generations.
When Trump goes, the Repukes need a lesson from The Caine Mutiny:

McConnell is the main reason for the shutdown when he put his precious Senate rules before the good of the nation by not using the nuclear option and voting on the budget bill passed by the House in December which included $5.7B for the wall. He did nothing to try to keep the spineless senate Republicans in line in support of the President, probably because his masters (CoC, Business Roundtable etc) want cheap labor even if it is illegal. Trump has no support from the deep state Republicans in the Congress.
