You beat me to it. This sounds like a South Vietnam redux. The difference there is there was a military victory with an out in the open negotiated peace.
But the outcomes of these winless wars are the same. They will be perpetual and unwinable unless we go for the snakes head. This will never happen for fear of invoking WWIII.
So withdrawal is really the only option unless we want to keep wasting American lives and resources.
Just posted an article showing what other countries are contributing to this NATO mission. Are we getting screwed or what.
We should leave Afghanistan just as we should leave the entire Middle East. If anyone of those sharia loving countries attack us, we should nuke em and not step a foot in there to rebuild. This is coming from a 40 year veteran that has been to all of them.

I know you guys miss John McCain, so let’s channel his ghost for wisdom on how to deal with his situation.
1) We don’t need to withdrawl to the contrary we need a buildup of forces in Afghanistan.
2) We need to pressure Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkemenistan, Pakistan, and Iran into allowing us to establish military bases inside their country. If they oppose this idea, then we should support a coup for any faction that would agree to our terms. This will allow us to conduct air strikes and ground-based patrols of Afghanistan from all sides.
3) We need increased military spending of all kinds (including increased funding for VA hospitals for the increased number of wounded and maimed)
4) Taxes will, of course, have to go up to pay for all this.
5) Due to the shortage of recruits for our military, we need open borders and reduced “discrimination” policies for all branches: Transgenders, schizophrenics, polygamists, and polyandrists (just to name a few) should all be admitted. Bringing the world under one “Federal” government is going to require a lot of manpower.
6) Oh...who am I kidding. We need military bases in every country on the planet. Currently we only have them in 177 nations across the globe. That’s well short of where we’ll need them. Remember we are a “Global force for good.”
Afghanistan and Iraq were a tremendous waste of American life and treasure. I am sure Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are just fine with us essentially declaring defeat. I did not always have this opinion and have been there. The problem is that an exit creates the vacuum and more problems in the long run. The poppy fields in Afghanistan should have been “agent oranged” so nothing grows for a 1000 years.
