Georgetown, Texas is a town of about 70,000 residents north of Austin. In 2012, the city committed to moving its energy grid to 100% renewables, a combination of wind and solar. Ever since then it has been touted as a model for the future and was even featured in the sequel to Al Gores Inconvenient Truth.
But it turns out Georgetown residents arent thrilled with how things are working out in their town. When Georgetown committed to renewables it bought enough that it could cover peak summer usage plus a little extra for future population growth. It locked in 2012 prices by committing to long term contracts of up to 25 years. Of course, it wouldnt need all of that power most of the year so the plan was to sell the excess to others on the Texas power grid who, it was thought, would be paying much higher prices for electricity produced from fossil fuels.

Hahaha.
They were supposed to impose that crap on other people not take it out on for themselves
I wonder if any of the residents will ponder switching their vote to Republicans in the future as a result of this boondoggle against them
Model for the future. High energy prices.
The folks at STP will be Happy to Hear this!
It was a mistake. It was a rash decision. It wasnt thought through, Barnaby said.
There is a great price to pay when the majority of persons in an area who finish high school and college are scientifically illiterate. It takes reasoning to think, not emotions.
There’s a video at the bottom of the story. If you don’t have a full stomach you might want to watch it, just to catch up on that lying f* the algore as he drones on and on from catch-phrase to catch-phrase without any attachment to reality whatsoever.
who cares if they vote GOP. I dont think these retards will ever learn their lesson. Something about liberals and common sense that dont seem to mix..
Dang! My brother just moved to this town!
I work in Georgetown but live outside the city so the price hike does not affect me. Georgetown and Williamson County used to be very conservative but as is often the case population growth brings in more liberal stupidity, some from Austin some from California.

Hey, Barnaby. We call that “voting Democrat” just in case you every buy a clue.
Those that buy into Al Gore’s lies......
'Splains dat!..............
This is where I live.
Heres the rub. Our (new) mayor who executed this FAIL is a republican and an algore fanboi. A real POS.
Georgetown is the seat of Williamson County- a county that has had a long history of conservatism braced up against the lefty loons of Travis County (Austin).
Enter the flood of lefty tech migrants from Silicon Valley. They cant afford to live in San Francisco on the Colorado, so they set up home in Williamson county and bring their diseased politics with them.
And now, thanks to being locked in to high energy prices, these dumb $hits probably can’t even sell their homes and move somewhere else!
Since when do liberals EVER DO THAT? It's all about FEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLINGS!.....................
Thats what happens when planning is based on feelings instead of thinking. The irony is that this town, and its leaders, will learn absolutely nothing from the experience.
Well, it did do that..................
Wind and solar. So peak usage is at night typically. What happens when the wind stops?...
No, stupid remains stupid.
Liberals are like locusts, they devour, move on, and repeat. See New Hampshire, Colorado...
