Cop story doesn’t add up. Supposedly heroin dealers, but no heroin found on the residence.

I wonder if it is a no-knock raid gone wrong, scared citizens thinking it was a home invasion, and a lot of blue on blue fratricide.

It's reported that Tuttle shot the first one through the door after that person shot their dog upon entry. Also that the woan was shot trying the retrieve the shotgun the first an through the door was carrying. We don't know who shot the other three officers. We also don't know how the officers were dressed.

Once the cops kick down your door, for the next few seconds it matters not if it was a clerical error or a case of SWATting. Armed and nervous men will suddenly be inside your living area, your dogs will be getting shot, possibly explosions will be taking place, and the lives of all in your household are at great risk.

My preference has been to make that scenario impossible. Certainly even the most mighty fortress can be breached eventually, but my objective has been to buy time.

Cops generally pile in through the front door. A concentration of force at the point of entry and then quickly spreading out and clearing rooms in the home, while other cops maintain a perimeter around the outside of the house. I have a normal-looking house, outside and inside. But breaching my normal front door doesn’t admit entry to anything but an enclosed foyer which has another door into the hallway, which door is virtually always kept secured. That is a door which I added and it’s heavy plate steel mounted in a steel frame. On the foyer side there is no knob or other mechanism for opening the door. Everything stops right there, at least for a few minutes.

If six cops pile in through the front door, six cops will have to back up out of the front door and decide how to proceed now that the element of surprise has thoroughly been lost. My guess is they would not attempt forcible entry by another means at that point, and would seek to make contact. Now there’s time to sort things out without gunplay.

Might the cops try the backdoor if they get a hint that the front door is not a good entry? Not likely. The dogs would surely alert when someone attempted to enter the backyard. The backdoor opens out onto a patio with a heavy steel enclosure, which is where the dogs normally sleep. Sure it would possible breach the enclosure with some effort and tools, and then breach the backdoor, but there would be zero element of surprise.
