Stars urge BBC to ask for Eurovision to be moved out of Israel
BBC ^ | January 30 2019 | BBC

Dame Vivienne Westwood, Peter Gabriel and Wolf Alice are among 50 artists who have called for the Eurovision Song Contest to be relocated from Israel.

Citing human rights concerns, they have signed an open letter urging the BBC to ask organisers to move the contest.

"Eurovision may be light entertainment, but it is not exempt from human rights considerations," they wrote.

(Yes, the headline is deliberately inflammatory—pretty much fitting with the tenor of the shrill, slanted excuse for "news" these days)

I do find it interesting that there are dozens of other nations on this planet with human rights records many, many times worse than Israel, but no one ever mentions them, and no stars call for their boycott.

But of course, it's not about t3h j0000z (/sarc)

(also be interesting to see how many posts it takes before the triple brackets start showing up. :P

“Dame Vivienne Westwood, Peter Gabriel and Wolf Alice...”

I’ve heard of Peter Gabriel. He hasn’t put out anything decent in a long time. But these other two? Never frickin’ heard of them.

These people aren’t particularly helping the Palestinians, any more than the people in the established Arabic nations show their concern by their policies. The real issue is that at least a minority of Jews are still God’s people, believing what they are taught in the Torah. It is their religiosity that makes the world hate them.

Well, if it WAS actually about ‘helping’ the Palestinians, it would be one thing, but anyone with half a brain knows that it’s really about a new, trendy and socially-acceptable way to indulge in the oldest and most resilient form of bigotry known to man.

The sixty years after WWII, when Anti-Semitism was briefly socially unacceptable was a mere blip on human history. Now, we’re back to the natural order of things, it seems. X.x

And you wonder why celebrities can't figure out why a lot of their fans are now former fans.

Has anyone here been privvy to the Eurovision song contest ?

It’s like an American Idol where the winners get to get out of their ghetto hovels and live in luxury. The Black Mirror “a million credits” or whatever was based on it.

Eurovision is a multi-media contest and the winner gets to tour around and somehow represent Europe while living in some upgraded state-sponsored position.

The left does the same thing here though don’t they. Building a wall is oppressive, we should allow terrorists into the USA so they can kill us. Anything that threatens a free society should be supported, all kind of criminals, drug runners, terrorists, are all oppressed, yes we took their land and it should all be returned but of course allow them to partake in the capitalist system set up by white people as well.

Well, to be fair, it launched the career of a few well-known artists, and revived the careers of a few others.

A few examples:

ABBA won it in 1974,
Brotherhood of Man won it in 1976,
Céline Dion won it in 1988,
and Katrina and the Waves won it in 1997.

“Eurosong,” brought to you by...The Middle East?

Has also been hosted by Azerbaijan. Talk about outsourcing.

Some of my favorite musicians won the contest too. Kerli, Hooverphonic, and I’m sure there are more.

It’s just a strange, almost post-apocalyptic sort of “game show”.

Didn't an Israeli act win the last time?

Traditionally/historically, Israel identifies as European, but on a Eurovision thread some months back, it was pointed out that even Australia participates.

For those who don’t know, the contest is hosted in the country of the winner of the previous year. Last year’s winner was an Israeli woman.

Even so...how in the world is Israel considered ‘European’? If it’s ‘Eurovision’, shouldn’t the contestants actually be from Europe?

Just sayin’.
