A Growing Chorus of Republican Critics for Trump’s Foreign Policy
New York Times ^ | Jan 29 2019 | Peter Baker

They think pulling out of Syria and Afghanistan would be a debacle. They think North Korea cannot be trusted. They think the Islamic State is still a threat to America. They think Russia is bad and NATO is good.

The trouble is their president does not agree.

More than two years into his administration, the disconnect between President Trump and the Republican establishment on foreign policy has rarely been as stark.

Perfectly stated.

The Republican establishment is NeoCon warmonger types, loving every single aspect of liberal philosophy except international belligerence.

Unfortunately, the report is true. Many of not most GOP establishment don’t want us to leave Syria and Afghanistan, and they’re starting to publicly take issue with Trump

We are still in Iraq, there are more than enough troops to keep the Kurds safe. As to Afghanistan, get out and just send in Special Ops as needed.

The story is not “imaginary”. Many Republican leaders have publicly criticized Trumps call for withdrawing from Syria and Afghanistan. Do some googling and you’ll see their statements, direct from their mouths

OK. Ben Sasse. I may be wrong, I don’t think I am, if I am I’ll eat a bug.

Legislative bodies historically have been fickle institutions. They chatter endlessly and whine. However they come about when leadership is exercised and things are accomplished. If Trump orders the Army Corp of Engineers to build a wall, regardless of the screaming it will get done. In two years those who opposed will no longer wish to discuss it. Also if he rids the Hemisphere of Maduro, he will be admired and have a real triumph. If Trump has real accomplishments despite Democratic opposition and some Republican subterfuge, the American people will reelect him. But he has to act, not just talk and tweet.

I am just one American, but I will never be Republican again. The party has left me and it’s on its way to be totally irrelevant and only a slight variation of the DNC.

Nothing imaginatively about it. McConnell himself will introduce a POTUS back stabbing amendment any day now on Syria and Afghanistan. With a Republican party like this who needs Democrats?
