Morton Sobell, Last Defendant in Rosenberg Spy Case, Dies at 101
NYT ^ | 1/30/2019 | Michael T. Kaufman and Sam Roberts

Posted on 01/30/2019 1:27:26 PM PST by Borges

Morton Sobell, who was convicted in the Cold War spy trial that delivered Julius and Ethel Rosenberg to their deaths and divided the nation for decades, died in December in Manhattan, a relative confirmed on Wednesday. He was 101.

Mr. Sobell, whose death was not reported at the time, had lived for many years on the Upper West Side and had recently been in nursing care. The family member asked not to be identified.

Serving 18 years in prison until he was released in 1969, Mr. Sobell proclaimed his innocence until 2008, when, in an interview with The New York Times, he startled his unflinching defenders by reversing himself and admitting that he had, indeed, been a Soviet spy.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, call it that,” he said. “I never thought of it as that in those terms.”

He was lucky ... he wasn’t executed.

I’ve heard Democrats call the Rosenbergs heros.

Nothing controversial about frying communist spies unless you sympathize with their cause

They were all guilty as hell and the Rosenbergs got what they richly deserved. The apologists and deniers largely shut their pie holes after the Soviet archives opened.

They were all Soviet spies. All of them. They should have all been put to death.

Effing Leftists. They protested for years that the Rosenbergs were innocent. They weren’t. They were guilty.

So were the Rosenbergs. There is and never was any controversy, merely their fellow travelers' agitprop.

Those same archives showed us that McCarthy was largely right, but you’ll never get our Left to admit it. The Democrats are the ones who collude with Russians.

And the other names in the network— David Greenglass, this guy Sobell, and so forth in the delivery system. Right inside Alamagordo was the UK’s physicist Klaus Fuchs, who funneled everything directly to the Cambridge 5 (Kim Philby, Burgess, etc. and who could forget the last— the Queen’s Art Conservator Anthony Blunt. And most all of them, queers, flagrant flamers).

And we should never forget how all these got into place— during WWII. Such as Alger Hiss, and Harry Hopkins— about whom there is now NO doubt. Venona intercepts. And still.... the Hahhhhvahd Yawwwwle elite will never own up to their criminal acts, because, of course they are above mere patriotism and nationalism.

proclaimed his innocence until 2008

Guess it's safe to admit that you spied for a country that doesn't exist anymore.

What is really interesting is Oppenheimer’s mistress living in Berkeley was setting up dates with Red Sparrow women to spy on many of the nuclear Scientists.

All the stories about her show her as just a woman in love.
She was a SPY.

Sobell should have been put in the general prison populations; the proper sentence of his extinction would have been carried out promptly by his fellow prisoners.

Add in Theodore Gold and Harry Gold into the Rosenberg apparatus too.

The commies had a ton of agents working in the US, probably a tenth of what they have now with their conspirator dems working hand and hand with them.

“I’ve heard Democrats call the Rosenbergs heros.”

They never let facts get inthe way of a good story. Same with the “dark” Mc Carthy era. Most of those accused of being Communists, were, in fact, Communists.

Sobell’s confession in 2008 finally put an end to the quixotic quest of the Rosenberg’s sons to exonerate their father, Julius. Of course, they still maintained the innocence of their mother, Ethel. However, classified FBI files providing evidence that Ethel, not Julius, was the real mastermind of the spy ring could not be released without compromising sources and methods of the investigation.
