Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has been slammed as 'shameful' after defending the firm's controversial research app and claiming teens 'consented' to having all their activity monitored.
The social media giant's controversial 'research' app, got Facebook's app permissions revoked by Apple and raised the ire of employees inside the company.
In an interview with CNBC, Sandberg said Facebook pulled the app after it 'realized we weren't in compliance with the rules on [Apple's] platform.'
However, it was Apple who yanked the 'research' app from its App Store, not Facebook.
Apple decided to ban the app, formerly known as Onavo VPN, from the App Store because it violated its data collection policies.
The move has since caused internal chaos at Facebook, where staffers have taken to internal discussion groups to voice their frustration over being unable to use employee-only iOS apps.

Fascistbook is a seditious and traitorous outfit.
Yeah, consented as in hitting the “accept” button means you accept what is in the 1,000 pages of fine print below it.
For many things, minors cannot really “consent”.
If Facebook’s monitoring results in them getting private medical info, pics of teens engaging in underage sex, etc, I can see them having some problems.
Teens, under 18, cannot ‘consent’ to anything.................
Hope she did not mean teenagers under the age of 18 whom cannot enter into a binding contract.
These things happen. We shouldn’t overreact. Facebook should be treated just like any widget company, tobacco company or other old economy firm that has fraudulent obtained or misused personal data. This means that Facebook must immediately notify every user — and in the case of minors, the users’ parents — of its deceptive practices. A simple apology is not enough. Facebook should also provide every affected user a detailed accounting of to whom his data was sold and how it was used. Facebook should pay the cost of a comprehensive cyber security effort to safeguard its past and present victims from further damage. This may include the cost of migrating users to other, more secure social media platforms with strong security measures built in at the front end. Facebook should also attempt to buy back the deceptively obtained information that it has sold. Compensation should be set by a panel representing victims subject to court supervision. Tobacco and asbestos settlements may provide some guidance as to amounts and payout mechanisms. Sauce for the goose .

Minors can not sign contracts.
Is appears to me a lot of these alleged social media sites are used for data mining for targeted advertising.
She went from a shining star to someone to ridicule. Her reputation seems done.

So the employees at Facebook were blindsided by the loss of the use of dozens of employee-only apps and their whole world was turned upside down? Maybe now they can understand how FB users feel when they are blocked or otherwise hampered on the FB platform. ROFLMAO
