Despite Januarys blowout jobs number of 304,000, leading economic indicators indicate moderate gains in the coming months - and economists said a downward revision was even likely for January, given the impact of the partial government shutdown.
The labor story continues to be a very good one for the economy and suggests that this imminent fear of a recession is overdone, said Darrell Cronk, president of the Wells Fargo Investment Institute.
I do expect there will be revisions in January as the statistical noise about how federal workers are counted will be resolved, said Andrew Chamberlain, chief economist at Glassdoor.com.
Were trying to sort out whats real and what isnt, said Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst at Bankrate.com. He likened the impact of the 35-day shutdown to that of a large hurricane or similar event. What we mostly have is economic activity thats delayed or deferred, he said.
The number of people who said they were working part-time for economic reasons skyrocketed by half a million last month, a telling jump that underscores the anecdotal reports of federal workers, government contractors and private-sector employees affected by the shutdown scrambling to pick up temporary gigs.
Nearly all of this increase occurred in the private sector and may reflect the impact of the partial federal government shutdown, the BLS said.

Hey, I’m working on a newspaper article which I hope to publish a month from now. I haven’t actually started the article, but I do have the headline: “Was February the last month we’ll see a blowout jobs number for a while?”
#FakeNews NBC tries to throw a wet blanket on the Trump Economic Miracle. No sale.
If Nancy can Kill Jobs she will or die trying
I think the headline might be a misprint.
The whole article laments the “blowout” (High) employment numbers for January and “BLAMES” it on the government shutdown. I think they are trying to downplay the jobs growth as a bad thing.
Based on this article, it would seem we should shut down the government permanently. It seems to help the economy.
Have you looked into authoring something along the lines of “The Impeachment of Donald Trump: The case for his responsibility for the current economic collapse”?
That second option sounds mighty fine.
I didn’t read it, but I’m sure the answer is the same as why we will never see snow again.

If smaller percent of the working public is unemployed thru jobs created by Trump admin already, then why would we want huge job filling numbers every month to come?
sure we need to get leeches collecting govt helps that should instead really be working off the dole and back to work too but we don’t need huge job growth monthly or that will be the excuse to keep shipping in visa workers or illegals.
Because of the way unemployment is counted, many people are no longer "unemployed" if they have not looked for a job for one year.
While some are "leeches" others are just "discouraged workers". More jobs and higher pay will get them back working again -- a very good thing.
Increases in workforce participation are almost always good. Most of these newly minted blue collar voters are going to be Trump voters.

Under Trump they smear droppings on his policy diamonds, and tell us theyre just droppings.
