Austin restaurants must have plan to eliminate food waste (TX)

Friday is the deadline for Austin food-permitted businesses to submit a plan for what they will do with scraps and other organic or compostable material. "We want to divert 90 percent of everything going to the landfill by 2040," said Tom Gleason with Austin Resource Recovery... Thirty to 40 percent of trash is organic material. Finding other ways to dispose of it is not only good for the environment, but supports the economy and creates new jobs, according to Gleason. Austin Resource Recovery will work with businesses to come up with a creative, cost-effective plan. However, if food-permitted businesses don't comply, they'll be cited by code enforcement.

In the meantime I’ll bet local health codes will not allow scraps to be collected and used as pig fodder.

There has been a slew of articles on the future of goat-herding, because it is a pesticide-free way to convert various weeds and undesired plants into natural fertilizer.

There’s a new business model here. Someone can take food waste to feed goats or pigs, and they can eliminate said “food waste”.

A guy in “Dirty Jobs” took it one step further and used pig poo generated by salad bar waste from Las Vegas to make biodegradable planters.

...supports the economy and creates new jobs...

They claim that every single Democrap proposal does that. Shouldn't we be at 200% of full employment with all the jobs created in their communist make-work programs?

Just give it to the pigs-they’ll eat anything. Then throw a party at the end of the year for the regular customers. The pif will be the special guest.

Use the restroom at Starbucks. Be careful where you waste.

All restaurants and all grocery stores will have leftover food. That’s just the way it is. Not everything is going to sell that day. You can only store so much in limited climate controlled spaces. So out it goes, in the dumper!

It’s coming to this entire state in 2020. No food waste in the trash. It’s going to be a hoot, bears are going to have a field day. It should last about 12 months until the next legislative session. What I don’t compost for my 1/4 acre garden I’ll burn, but people in town or apartments will be screwed. I’m stocking up on popcorn now.

As much as I HATE it when Socialists have a good idea, I don’t find anything wrong with this other than it is FORCED COMPLIANCE.

I am the QUEEN of COMPOSTING and it’s some awesome stuff! Many of you on our Gardening Thread have SEEN the bounty I can grow each growing season. ;)

In fact, while we were coming in our own driveway this afternoon, the farmer that rents our land for crop production for his Dairy was out (in 15 degree weather!) spreading manure.

Cows eat grass & field corn and soybeans and other fodder. Cows turn the above into MILK and MEAT. Cows poop. A LOT, LOL! Cow poop grows the food crops the next generation of cows need to EAT!

It really IS that simple. Just. Keep. Mother. Government. Out. Of. It. And all will be well. :)

This has been tried many times, and in many ways. The end result is always the same. Those who were supposed to benefit will sue when the food is not meeting the gold standard for fine dining, and the well-intentioned have to close down.

The restaurants can flush all of their food waste down the toilet, and it won’t go to the landfill. Problem solved.

Austin has been becoming the liberal bend in the U-pipe of the Texas toilet for quite a while now. Next they need to follow DC's lead and tax re-allocate personal resources to hire a few Kriminalpolizei agents for their Department of Soda Straw Enforcement. One-legged, Kenyan albino lesbians who were smuggled over the border by Honduran mules shall be exempted, of course.
