Brisbane Airport in Lockdown

Brisbane International Airport has re-opened following an "emergency situation" last night which ended after a man was shot by police with non-lethal rounds.

Queensland Police officially revoked the emergency declaration shortly before 11pm (AEST) Saturday, with the airport announcing staff will return to the terminal ahead of passengers as they attempt to work through the delays.

"It will take some time to get operations back to normal. There will be flight impacts. We appreciate your patience," they confirmed on Twitter.

The airport had been evacuated with flights grounded and trains stopped just two hours earlier as specialist officers descended on the terminal amid an incident in the departures area.

An Australian man of Middle Eastern origin was shot in the torso with non-lethal beanbag rounds, before being taken into custody by police.

"He's been examined by [paramedics], he has no significant injuries," Queensland Police Superintendent Tony Fleming said during a press conference, according to ABC.

The man was taken to a police station for questioning over the incident, which authorities say is not terrorism related but a domestic violence-related situation.

"It's my understanding that the man approached a woman, that woman was known to the man," Superintendent Fleming said.

"There was some communication there and then he spoke with another female and it's at this point that circumstances deteriorated."

It had been reported that the man was brandishing a knife in the food court - in the pre-security section of the terminal - and had walked into the departures area with a silver box featuring exposed wiring, which he claimed to be a bomb, according to the Courier Mail.

Superintendent Fleming confirmed earlier fears the man at the airport was carrying an explosive turned out to be false.

"When police were involved we became aware of a device and it's certainly then the officers' suspicion was elevated significantly that that could have been an explosive," he said.

"Subsequently, it's not an explosive."

However, there has been some speculation that a subsequent bomb scare and police operation on the Gold Coast last night was linked to the man's arrest, with unconfirmed reports his car may contain bomb-making equipment and had been left in a public carpark.

Queensland Police evacuated the International terminal of Brisbane Airport around 9pm (AEST) after police declared the Public Safety and Preservation Act "due to an emergency situation" unfolding.

Passengers inside the terminal reported screams and chaotic scenes in the departures area and several Ambulances were seen arriving at the scene.

International flights only have been delayed as a result of the situation, with domestic passengers unaffected.

"Domestic operations are normal. International Terminal operations will resume once Australian Federal Police business is concluded," Brisbane Airport tweeted.

Islamist attacking his family with a knife at the airport and claiming he has a bomb.

The biggest mistake by the police was using beanbags instead of bullets.

Not terrorism, of course.

Nothing to see here, move on...

Well they’re saying it isn’t terrorism. Going after his family with a knife, they are probably right, but the moment he claimed he had a bomb, it became terrorism in my book.

Having said that, Australian Federal Police are much better at calling terrorism than US authorities.

authorities say is not terrorism

C'mon, admit it, if it's not islamic terrorism, then it's satanic possession, which is just as bad.

"He's been examined by [paramedics], he has no significant injuries," Queensland Police Superintendent Tony Fleming said

In this circumstance, I have to ask, "Why?"

From what I understand a bomb wasn’t found, but the may have found bomb making material and a detonator.

In other words, he personally exploded prematurely.

Good point.
When it’s part of a premeditated disinformation campaign designed to generate headlines that conservatives are islamophobic and hence sue them for defemation and collect millions.

This happened in the Gold Coast at the BrisVegas airport. They generally take terrorism a bit more seriously. Tourism is a major part of the economy there.

The Islamic version of death by cop takes premeditation and planning because you have to first build something that looks like a bomb.

I caused a turmoil at Brisbane back in the 90’s when I was flying a Cessna 210 down the coast and as I got close called on the tower frequency, to get clearance, and unbeknownst to me was threat the mike button was stuck down and locked up the frequency. after a few minutes or so realized that they hadn’t called back. created a delay for incoming airlines. they were understanding about and didn’t arrest this Yankee.

The latest:

The Surfers Paradise local will front Brisbane Magistrate’s Court on Monday also charged with stealing, serious assault police, making a false statement which can be inferred that there is a plan to damage or destroy a commonwealth air navigation facility, bomb hoax, and common assault.
