MADISON, Wis. Foxconn Technology Group has shifted its stated strategy yet again on Friday for a massive Wisconsin campus, crediting a conversation with President Donald Trump for cementing plans to proceed with building a factory to make high-tech liquid display screens.
The news capped a week of confusion about Foxconns plans in Wisconsin. The company announced in 2017, to much fanfare, that it planned to invest $10 billion in the state and hire 13,000 people to build an LCD factory that could make screens for televisions and a variety of other devices.
The company last year said it was reducing the scale of what was to be made in Wisconsin, from what is known as a Gen 10 factory to Gen 6. But this week, even that was thrown into question with Foxconn executive Louis Woo said it couldnt compete in the television screen market and would not be making LCD panels in Wisconsin....

Neither announcement makes sense. Lots of planning goes into these expansions and the economics haven’t changed significantly since they made the deal with Wisconsin. You don’t just make and unmake decisions on this scale like what to order for lunch.
But, the problem with incentives is there is never a guarantee the company will do what is originally planned.
THANK YOU MR PRESIDENT!
Donald J. Trump - the greatest jobs president God ever created !
What I heard
Because of the uncertainty of the trade war with China, Foxconn, a Taiwanese company whose products are made on mainland China had some concerns as to how that situation would effect them. They began a review of their plans.
Then came news that China’s economy was hurting because to the trade war, while the US economy was healthy and growing. Add to that: the call from DJT that likely (supposition here) hinted at a trade deal between China and the US was nearly complete on favorable terms to the US.
Those two items prompted Foxconn to conclude that they were safe to return to their original manufacturing plans, plant size and hiring plan.
All the rest is FUD.
Second that!!
Can anyone imagine the Kenyan or Shrub going to bat for our people like this?
An even bigger problem is that we apparently don’t have any comparable manufacturers of these products already within the United States. Hopefully, that will soon change, if the market is really there.
Put in that factory FoxComm...so we can steal Chinese tech for a change.
“Put in that factory FoxComm...so we can steal Chinese tech for a change”
For sake of accuracy they are a Taiwan Company (Democracy)
I hope this sticks, I’d like Sharp TV’s ( Majority owner is Foxconn) To get back in play for high quality TV’s like the old Aqous Days. My 10 year old 46” 1080P TV is still vibrant. Foxconn bought majority ownership from Sharp Japan. They let Hisence (China) build and market under the Sharp name for the last few years. Mostly crap TV’s which Sharp (Foxconn) brought a lawsuit for sullying their name with poor quality TV’s. Hisence backed down and it appears for at least the North American market Sharp will start building their own TV’s out of the Wisc. Plant. High end competition will help bring down down prices across the boards.
You are correct but how much tech do you think The ChiComs have stolen from FoxConns factories that produce Apple phones, laptops and so on?
Stolen Apple tech that was funneled into Huawei phones etc. Other Chinese manufacturers too.
The best way to figure out what LCD TV to buy is to read Amazon reviews. No need to buy from Amazon but the reviews are informative. Plus I always look at the 4+5 star reviews versus the 1+2 star reviews. Also check out most recent reviews in case production quality has taken a recent dive.
I also buy vitamins/supplements this way.
About 10 years ago I had a job at a Foxxconn plant. Best paying job I ever had.

The exact same method I use is the 4/5 star ratio vs 1/2 star ratings. For TV’s I also use the brilliant testing that RTINGS.com does. They are not paid by manufacturers and buy their test TV’s off the street instead of receiving cherry picked units sent by the manufacturers.
Negotiations means both sides win.
Foxconn is Taiwan. What pressure will mainland China feel?
Will they get in a bidding war for our affection... so to speak?

True and Musk is falling into this trap as well by building a Tesla factory in China right now. Obviously he has to build them cheaper and get a big China market share to survive long term. But he will have his superior Battery technology ripped off and show up in the Chinese EV maker NIO’s cars. Nio’s are sharp looking cars, but their battery range is 20% or so behind Tesla, unfortunately that will change soon.

Those two wussies couldn’t even order their own lunch without help.
Corning glass works?
Good to know that Corning is still around.
I was at the Foxconn Q & A event on January 24, 2019 in Racine. The placed was packed with politicians and reporters. Lot of questions to Senior Management. They said nothing about Foxconn pulling out of the deal or shutting down screen production. They talked about hiring more people and contracting with suppliers.
The real story behind all of the is is the new Far Left Wing idiot Wisconsin Governor scaring the hell out of all businesses in Cheeseland.
