I would have to know what you mean by people who expect their daily needs to be meet. Are you talking about people who receive Social Security Disability? Currently there are approximately 8.5 million people on Social Security Disability in the US. That’s roughly 2.4% of the American population. Considering all the ways the human body can go wrong or be seriously injured yet still survive I find that to be an amazingly low percentage.

I bring up social security disability because a buddy I served with retired about the time I did. He got a job at social security in the supplemental security income section. He and I joked about the job and having to deal with all the fakers trying to get benefits. Before he worked there him and I both would have said 70-80% of the people on disability are faking it. After he had worked there a few years he told me we were horribly wrong. He thinks it’s maybe 10-20% that are trying to fake the system. He says they only approve about 30% of initial claims, but that 80-90% of the people applying truly deserve it.

I served with this guy and would trust him in a foxhole. I trust his judgment on this. Though there is always the possibility that it is just his office that sees so many truly disabled people and other offices see 80-90% fakers. But I doubt it.

Your point about keeping spending the same is a good one.

We do not do that. Automatic increases are built into the budget process.

If we simply froze spending we would go a long way toward reducing the deficit.

Court rulings be damned!

Some years ago, the law was that the survivors of people who paid into SS and died before they were eligible to retire could get the money, but they had to sue the Fed to get it.

Congress changed the law, and the courts have ruled that SS “contributions” belong to the government. Furthermore, they are part of the General Fund and are NOT earmarked for SS. Thank you LBJ, you asshole!

Reason, logic and common sense having bypassed the courts and the legal system, one should not be surprised.

Owning your own business taught you that the total cost of an employee didn’t include the taxes you paid for them? Must have been some business.

No difference in income, sales, state, property and other taxes. In this case they just promised to fuck the next person to give to you. It’s welfare. No difference. Keep convincing yourself it’s different somehow. It is not a private account. They spent it on other votes.

I am well aware of the costs. You seem to be unaware of who pays them.

If you mean literally writing the check then yes you paid it. But then you paid both halves since you also wrote the payroll check. That’s fine, you wrote the checks and paid all of the Social Security taxes. So I suppose your employees should get nothing.

Must be nice to have an employer who does not require you to earn 7% of your benefit package. I supppse you “gave” them healthcare insurance as well. And when it was time to cost out your product you didnt include any of the stuff you gave them in the labor component.

You will be ok once you get out in the real world and find out first hand how things work. In the meantime, stick with the theories you were taught in school.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An elementary school student would read that and be fooled until they learned the real truth later on in life. It’s the difference between theory and reality.
Let me educate you one more time. Other states may vary but here in Minnesota and every other state in which I hired people this applies;
An employee pays half of the SS bill. The employer pays the other half. The employee gets all the benefits, the employer gets none.
An employee pays NONE of the Unemployment Insurance bill.
The employee gets all the benefits, the employer gets none.
An employee pays NONE of the Workers Comp bill.
The employee gets all the benefits, the employer gets none.
Employees are a commodity. They get paid what the market will bear. Simple as that.
You do realize that state laws do not apply to SS? The people your hired had to be worth, to your business, at least every cent it cost to employee them which include wages, taxes, and benefits. All of them. You had a number that included the entire package. They may be paid $10/hr but you knew that the total number was more like $15. If they were not worth at least $15 you where a fool for hiring them because you would lose money. They employee earned the $15 not the $10.
Only a socialist believes the in free money. As in I get a free social security match. Do you also beleive that a matching 401k contribution by an employer is also unearned money that the employee gets for free?
