A patient at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital is being tested for the deadly Ebola virus out of “an abundance of caution,” an official said.

Details about the patient were not revealed, but chief medical officer Dr. P.J. Brennan said in a statement that a patient which met the screening criteria for Ebola testing “is currently being evaluated” and is undergoing tests.

"“Clinical teams at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania have received extensive training and conduct ongoing preparations for the possibility of caring for a patient with the Ebola virus since the appearance of the virus in the United States in 2014,” Brennan said."

That's because Obama flew them here from Africa. Who knows why.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reasoning was the same as HIV I've heard "if only more heterosexuals were infected we could have a cure". Sick

True, but if it’s oozing out of pores, tear ducts, etc., that’s a little different...

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

P.J. Brennan is a high-level executive and extensively published health care researcher, he’s been living in the C suite for 20+ years and, I presume, is relying on clinical staff for information.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) —

Tests have confirmed that a patient at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia does not have Ebola, officials say.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed the results on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the department, Ebola was ruled out and another diagnosis was made. The nature of that diagnosis was not disclosed.

Penn Medicine officials said in an earlier statement the patient met the screening criteria for Ebola testing.
