Gallup editor says most Americans want to see a change to health care system

Gallup editor-in-chief Mohamed Younis said in an interview that aired Thursday on "What America's Thinking" that most Americans want to see some change in the health care system.

"When you ask people, a majority of them actually want to see something change," Younis told Hill.TV's Krystal Ball on Wednesday, referring to a new Hill-HarrisX survey.

"A majority of people say there [are] either major problems or that the health care system is currently in crisis," he continued. "So there's appetite for change. There's majority support for the ACA [Affordable Care Act] in place, but over 40 percent of people want to see significant changes even to the ACA."

"So it's not clear. Folks are clearly saying the system is still sort of broken to some degree, but there isn't a lot of consensus around how to fix it in one way or another," he said.

The poll comes as 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls decide how far they want to go in championing "Medicare for all," which would aim to provide health care for all Americans but would eliminate private insurance.

First, the editor in chief of Gallop is a Muslim?

"A majority of people say there [are] either major problems or that the health care system is currently in crisis," he continued. "So there's appetite for change. There's majority support for the ACA [Affordable Care Act] in place, but over 40 percent of people want to see significant changes even to the ACA."

It sounds to me like the American people are increasingly frustrated by the ACA.

In their gut they don't like it but they publicly say the support it.

Americans always want better everything.

The government hears us and gives us worse everything, every time.

yes. there should be changes in the U.S. health care system.

both the medical industry and the insurance industry should be greatly deregulated.

Compare the B.S. your car repairman has to deal with, with what your doctor’s office has to deal with, and what your insurance company has to comply with.

The health care system is currently in “crisis” because of Obamacare.

It was in good shape before.

What amazes me about health care these days compared to years ago is this and I add my new wife has worked in this industry as a provider for many many years, part of a big Hospital and related offices group

There is an insane amount of overhead. Her group has 1-2 extra layers of Mgt than I ever saw working for Fortune-100 companies. They practice defensive medicine to guard against law suits, we have patient coordinators to help steer you thru the countless number of specialties that exist.

None of this existed to this extreme 20 years ago

Can I ask a stupid question?

Wasn’t Obamacare supposed to fix all of our healthcare problems, insure the uninsured, subsidize insurance for lower income people, make sure everyone was cdvered, etc. etc. ???

So what’s with this Medicare for all business? All these Democrats should be asked about this. Why are they pushing Medicare for all, when Obamacare was supposed to be healthcare heaven for us?

And remind them, they are good Democrats, Obama was a good Democrat, and they force fed that legislation through. Why are we having to “fix” anything, when they assured us at the time that Obamacare was the answer????

Also from Gallup

“...........

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sixty-five percent of Americans are satisfied with the way the healthcare system works for them, down slightly from 67% in 2014. Americans with Medicare, Medicaid and military or veterans’ insurance continue to express the most satisfaction, at or near 75%, while uninsured Americans report the lowest (40%). Satisfaction With the U.S. Healthcare System, by Insurance Type 2014

Nope. Obamacare was designed to wreck the healthcare industry.

Just my totally layman opinion.

RE: Gallup editor says most Americans want to see a change to health care system

Count me in as one of those who want to see a change as well. But if this change means “Medicare-for-all” FORGET IT.

The only rational change is to get the Federal Government totally out of the Medicine business and out of the Insurance business except to sanction, maybe even cut off trade with, any other country that ignores our medical patent. That will reduce the cost of new drugs because the rest of the world will help pay for the R&D which only Americans pay for now thus giving the rest of the world a free ride on new drugs. Mandating the selling of new drugs for government set or limited prices only stops new drugs from being developed.

The U.S. health care system is predicated on the delusional idea that we have a God-given right to force other people to pay our medical bills.

It's been that way for years ... which means it was never in "good shape" for as long as I can remember.

From what I see, the rise in health care cost began when people started suing doctors and hospitals for any and everything.

It started in the late 70's and 80's.

Before then health care was affordable for most people.

Now it's a racket for drug and insurance companies.

Nobody likes the healthcare system. The republicans should not own it. They should point to it as an example of how socialism does not work.

"A majority of people say there [are] either major problems or that the health care system is currently in crisis,"

Yeah. I want my Doctor back.

And I want my Doctor to be a white male who graduated from a US Medical School.

Good old American name, Mohamed Younis. Whatever happened to real Americans running the polling outfit to see what Americans think?

Well, I think this could be a potent political issue.

Ask all these Democrats, why the need to fix healthcare, when Obamacare was supposed to do that? And put them on the defensive about it, about the failures of Obamacare, if they feel the need to fix healthcare further.

Let us talk about the bad Democrat judgement in foisting Obamacare on us, and ask why should we trust their judgement now, that Medicare for all is the answer.

I haven’t heard anyone talk in those terms, but, Democrats assured us Obamacare was healthcare Nirvana. They should be forced to defend it, and/or be forced to confess that Obamacare didn’t work, if now they are pushing Medicare for all.

Why would a white male American do that? We can normally project out well enough to avoid bad decisions.
