Washington (CNN)A trade decision by the Trump administration has inadvertently protected a price advantage enjoyed by Russian-caught fish sold in the US, much of which ends up in fish sticks served to American school children.
For years, Alaskan fishermen have been frustrated by foreign competition from Russia, particularly in the lucrative pollock market. Caught in Russian waters, this cold-water cousin of the cod is processed in China before being sold in the US for use in frozen and breaded fish products, as well as imitation crab meat.
Russian pollock costs less than its US-caught equivalent. That's helped it gain share of the roughly $200 million US market for frozen pollock, to the point that by 2017, about half the fish sticks served in US school cafeterias were made from fish caught in Russia and pumped with additives in China, according to the Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers, a trade group that represents 14 different seafood companies.

I haven’t had a “fish stick” since Jr HS cafeteria days, back in 1960-1963.
Who cares? This “find the Russian connection” game is as tiresome as the old game of how every arcane thing you do causes global warming game. “Enjoy asparagus? You are killing the planet...”

I loved the 25 cent fish sandwiches at school. I had them in the 90’s when I was fixing equipment in our local school cafeterias as an outside contractor. It was a great thing, they always fed ya!
As opposed to domestic food processors, who only give us pure and wholesome foods, and never add anything or change it’s natural goodness. /s
Two things I glean from the article:
1) This is INADVERTENT (something the headline writer no doubt wants you to ignore)
2) Since the fish is processed in China it likely arrives with a Product of China label.
The average person might have no idea Russia was involved.
But hey, you know, RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA!

This story indicates how manic CNN is in smearing Trump.

Isn’t Russian caviar the best? If so, shouldn’t the fish sticks also be superior?
