Yes, there are.

The H1B program has always been about keeping wages down for skilled professionals in Medicine and Engineering by importing cheaper immigrants who are basically indentured servants with no recourse in the American political system.

Executives in large corporations greatly prefer these arrangements to a so-called "free market" in labor. They don't want to pay free market rates and don't want any restraints on disposing of the workers when they are inconvenient.

They rent politicians to write the laws. The politicians get paid to blather on about the "need" for imported workers in order to provide cover for the scam.

I am very unsympathetic. It is clear that voting is not the way to fix this kind of problem.
