My return was much smaller this year, but I was anticipating it.

SALT cap at 10k hurt. And, there’s a 750k cap on mortgage interest deductions for debt assumed after Dec 15, 2017.

The volume of outrage will increase as 15 April approaches.

IMHO, withholding by the guvmnt should not take place. Let the IRS send a bill at the end of the year and make everyone send them a check; then you’ll see some REAL tax reform.

We could also move tax day (or Election Day) to be on the same day. As you go to vote, you drop off your taxes

Which is why either proposal will never work - ask your average person how much money they make a year, and 99 times out of 100, they will answer with their net figure instead of their gross.
If we had to write the check ourselves to the goober-mint, you are semi-correct. Not only would there be tax reform, but there would be immediate tax revolt.

I’ve been saying that for years. Income withholding was the most devious and genius thing the big government politicians ever came up with. Make people write a check at the beginning of each year and see how many politicians would still be in office after the next election. I don’t know why people can’t see this. They’re too worried about their “refund” like the government is actually giving them something.
