I can only say, as a US citizen, that I wish I had the confidence that my government would work that hard for me if I got in trouble overseas. Trump’s a lot better than Obama in this regard. Under Barack, I had the definite impression that he could care less if a US citizen got in trouble overseas. He was too eager to take the other country’s part, especially if it was one of the 57 States.
When my dad was a lad, foreign governments would NOT eff with American citizens, because the full might of the US government would fall on them if they did.
The best passports are French and Russian. Both nations has questionable record on civil rights but Lord forbids any other country to hurt their citizen. That is a sort of medieval sovereign concept. They’d put all the pressure on weaker countries and would hire the best lawyers in the countries they can’t threaten or buy.
Why should any President care about an American that breaks the law in another country?
