Venezuelas disputed and embattled president, Nicolas Maduro, is so fearful of his own people that he has called on Cuban guards to serve as his security detail, a top U.S. military official said.
Navy Adm. Craig S. Faller, commander of U.S. Southern Command, testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday that Maduro, fearing for his own safety, has completely surround[ed] himself with Cuban security. I think its a good sense of where the loyalty of the Venezuelan people are, that his immediate security force is made up of Cubans, Faller told the committee.

Faller added that Russia and China have been involved in what intelligence officials say are measures to support Maduros regime. Weve seen reporting of Russian security forces being flown in, he said. Chinas not been helpful in a diplomatic way, Ill leave that to the diplomats but Chinas in there and theyre involved in cyber ways that are not helpful to a democratic outcome.

Who didn’t know that? We known that the Pres there had exclusively Cuban guards since Chavez.

Even if not true, this is precisely the type of rumor that should be heavily circulated amongst the Venezuelan people.

“Who didnt know that? We known(sic) that the Pres there had exclusively Cuban guards since Chavez.”
From the article:
“Sen. Tom Cotton, R- Ark., surprised by the information, asked how many of these Secret Service-style guards Maduro has in the country.”
Evidently Senator Cotton and other members of the U.S. Senate did not know. Or pretended not to know.

All it would take is one well placed round , from over a mile away , and Venezuela’s problems will be at an end .
What is wrong with such an outcome ?

So all this misery. How much of that can be laid at the door of Fidel Castro?

My guess: Maduro has Cuban security forces and Russian "mercenaries" protecting him. Ousting him could have VERY serious consequences.

300 Russian mercs already had a really bad day in Syria. Anything happen? Mercs of any nationality are agents of deniability.

Ousting him could have VERY serious consequences. Absolutely - particularly for the Cuban and Russian mercs. As a courtesy to Putin, President Trump should send him a heads up on the arrival of the 1000 lb cement JDAMs. Give his mercs time to step away a bit.

serious consequences? If Maduro is dead? What consequences.
The citizens kill a bunch more? There aren’t enough Cubans to put down the population if they are armed. They are not, but can be easily.

Does Maduro’s Cuban security detail have heavy weapons? If not, what is the Venezuelan military waiting for?
