Americans continue their march to low-tax states

The United States Census Bureau released its annual state-by-state population estimates for 2018 in late December. It highlights migration trends across the states and sketches a picture of looming political changes that will take place after the complete Census of 2020.

Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Arizona led the way this past year in overall population growth as a percentage of population.

Once again, Texas and Florida were the big winners in overall population gains, with the Lone Star State gaining more than 379,000 residents from 2017-18 and the Sunshine State posting a gain of more than 322,000.

The big net losers from the report were New York, which lost a total of 48,510 residents, and Illinois, which lost 45,116.

These state-by-state population numbers will alter the makeup of seats in the United States House of Representative during the once-a-decade reapportionment and redistricting process that will commence after the 2020 census.

Maine is losing population, however the population is small so the raw numbers are low, but the percentage is high.

I can remember when AZ and NV were solid Red States. Now that CA Voters have infected those States, they are turning Blue. New Yorkers are doing the same thing to FL. It is like the Plague.

Same thing is happening to Idaho. Everyone moving there is from Washington or California.

You would think that having experienced what caused them to move (i.e. Liberal Policies) they wouldn’t want to elect people in their new State that would replicate the same legislation they fled from. But, I guess Stupidity reigns supreme.

You are probably right. Not only has the country’s demographics changed dramatically, so has the culture.

The big political wild card will be our out of control debt and how that effects people (e.g., higher taxes, inflation, economy, etc.). On top of the debt we have a crushing mountain of unfunded liabilities. Its not going to end well.

"...big net losers from the report were New York, which lost a total of 48,510 residents, and Illinois, which lost 45,116."

I think it's worse than that - this doesn't account for people on the dole moving in. So it's not just losing X number of taxpayers, it's also gaining X number of leeches.

From my own personal experience here in NH what I see is that people move here from Mass and other states and then complain about the lack of services. Such as having to take your trash to the transfer station or dump unless you live in the cities.

Just recently somebody wanted to build sidewalks throughout town because it would be safer to walk on the sides of the road. They never considered what it would cost to build those sidewalks or where the money was going to come from.

Many move here and retire to their former vacation home on one of the lakes. Then they complain about the fact that the lake front houses pay really high real estate taxes. That they do not have kids in the local school and that their tax burden is not fair. Then they want an income tax to shift the burden to someone else.

And?

I was just posting the statistics from the governments.

I do not think Idaho or SC are liberal magnets. I think they are being inundated with people moving from blue states though. However, a state like Idaho ONLY has a population of 1 million. Therefore, if people from Washington and California keep moving there it will not be long before it could turn purple to blue. Same thing happened here in NH. They are locusts.

Move from California to SC and you can live like a king on the SC coast. Just make sure you have a hurricane bug out bag and good property insurance.
