Rats, Public Defecation And Open Drug Use: Our Major Western Cities Are ...Uninhabitable Hellholes
End Of The American Dream ^ | February 12, 2019 | Michael Snyder

Posted on 02/13/2019 8:10:30 AM PST by ProtectOurFreedom

Almost everyone that goes out to visit one of our major cities on the west coast has a similar reaction. Those that must live among the escalating decay are often numb to it, but most of those that are just in town for a visit are absolutely shocked by all of the trash, human defecation, crime and public drug use that they encounter. Once upon a time, our beautiful western cities were the envy of the rest of the world, but now they serve as shining examples of America’s accelerating decline. The worst parts of our major western cities literally look like post-apocalyptic wastelands, and the hordes of zombified homeless people that live in those areas are too drugged-out to care. The ironic thing is that these cities are not poor. In fact, San Francisco and Seattle are among the wealthiest cities in the entire nation. So if things are falling apart this dramatically now, how bad will things get when economic conditions really start to deteriorate?

If you are into public defecation, you will be very happy to learn that Denver just made it legal…

First, the obvious: The Denver City Council has voted unanimously to decriminalize a number of offenses, including defecating in public. Also, urinating in public. Camping on public or private land without permission. Panhandling. And lying across public rights-of-way, such as sidewalks.

Democrat Mayor Michael Hancock and city officials explained the new ordinances are designed to protect immigrants — legal and the other kind — from “unintended consequences.” These consequences were fines and longer jail terms, as has been customary in most places for violating the behavioral norms of civilized American society.

A national crisis that continues to grow, one that the democrats use to win elections. For every homeless person there is 10,000 who fear they are not far away from the same fate.

Conservatives need to offer solutions which will turn this around, that will not only make the country better off it can gain support and win elections, even in democrat strongholds.

“Every building that share common walls, common space like townhomes, condos & apartments, are infected with biting, itching bed bugs.”

That is NOT true.

“You created this situation by turning cities into places with zero net productivity. You created hellholes of non-working people who live off welfare that comes from the paychecks of the productive people.”

Amazon HQ is downtown Seattle.
The list of companies with HQ in San Francisco is myriad, and includes the most profitable companies in America:

Making your contention laughable.

The ‘solution to Western Cities Becoming Hellholes:

Put someone like George L. Kelling in charge....

https://www.city-journal.org/community-policing

Times Square was overrun by prostitutes, pimps, and drug dealers. A drive through the Bronx would reveal whole blocks on which only one structure—if any—remained standing. A trip to the corner store would often require cutting through a group of youngsters dealing drugs, drinking, playing loud music, or catcalling young women.

As this kind of disorder worsened, law-abiding residents began to feel increasingly vulnerable to more serious street crime. The disorder made people feel that no one was in charge, and if no one was in charge, anything could happen. More and more New Yorkers began to avoid many public spaces. And the absence of law-abiding citizens from public spaces allowed those spaces, and the surrounding neighborhoods, to fall further into disorder. Eventually, this breakdown encouraged more serious criminal behavior. My colleague James Q. Wilson and I explained the phenomenon in a 1982 article for The Atlantic. I saw my role as a consultant working with Bratton in the 1990s as helping police to incorporate this reality into how they approached their jobs.

He did specify "western cities".

I work in Manhattan and it's a wonderful place to be. I have never seen human crap on the streets. Most of the violence is between bad people in neighborhoods you never need to visit.

The restaurants are fantastic, music venues are incredible (I have tickets to five concerts in the next few months and may go to more, depending on who comes to town) and the people generally leave you alone, which I like (overly friendly people weird me out).

And for a city, it's very clean. There is no comparison between NYC and San Francisco.

Bed bug deniers are a plague.

Our company built a brand new corporate building with the latest technology. The bed bugs came a month later. I was told to lie about them. Bed bug prevalence is a public taboo topic.

Apartments, motels, everywhere I lived had them. But it takes people years to self educate how the threat operates. Townhome owners are in denial.

Only a detached home can protect against them.

You cannot control your neighbor's lifestyle. One motel visit, and your neighbor has bed bugs. They can lie dormant for two years, hiding inside their home.

Most people think it is a mosquito bite. But then, one year later, through your common wall, you get bit, bit, bit. Ouch. That is dense living.

Ain't nothing you can do about it. Just like poo disease, you cannot defeat Mother Nature. Life survives, even organisms hostile to you.

Get self educated.

And that is why I would NEVER live in a townhome, condo or apartment. They are less than human habitable. And your dogs suffer bites the owner is unaware of.

The homeless mental health crisis won't be resolved until the proglibs own the solution. Proggies were the ones who advanced the concept that imprisoning someone against their will for a crime that wasn't committed was a gross violation of due process and civil rights.

As we know, the USSR simply considered people who were opposed to the regime as mentally ill. When Ken Kesey wrote Cuckoo, people could be institutionalized against their will. The multiple cases and exposes of inhumane treatment, brain mutilation, etc presented a picture of medieval torture chambers. It really is no wonder that the mental institutions were shuttered.

And yet, here we are coming full circle. Society has to accept that approximately 1 in 10-20 will become mentally ill. Unable to care for themselves, they will in turn endanger others - including children - to negatively impact the rest of society.

So, the big trick will encompass a few core elements. One will be diagnosis - this will be achieved through DNA analysis and other brain mapping techniques. Two will be attempted cures, remedial actions or just management. And three will be where to house them, what type/kind of facilities (locked cells, apartments, ?) will they be, who will tend to them, and what kinds of rights will patients possess.

The last point is the action item proglibs have to advance themselves. Rationale people should always remind themselves that leftists are emotional - children really. For them to act, a 'solution' has to accrue social rewards as well as garner group accolades to recognize their 'virtuous' activities. Once progs are in agreement that housing the mentally ill is the new "humane" solution, then action will finally take place.

Fair point, though by the end of the article/with his "America is in an advanced state of decay..." paragraph, he seems to be convict all cities.

Agreed. I worked in Manhattan for a long time and, like you, found it NOT to be the hellhole many outside of NYC consider it to be. To be sure, you have lots of radicals and statists and similar types who make MSNBC seems like Deplorables. And for every improvement you see on 42nd Street, Bryant Park, and even Hell's Kitchen, there remain nasty areas that NOBODY would want to frequent.

That said, I've found Deplorables in NYC to be very strong, good people. The Churches are fantastic (and very traditional if you know where to look), the food is great, businesses are innovative, the music scene is pretty strong, and the scenery can be breathtaking.

“Get self educated.”

I am self-educated. I have lived in a condo for 14 years,no problem.

I have friends and relatives in condos-—no problem.

Anyone who travels can pick them up no matter what type of housing they choose-——but to say ALL multi unit housing has bedbugs is not true.

You missed the point. Your typo (dropping the “r” from the word “brush”) provided an opportunity for a smile-inducing and off-color interpretation of the word. No harm intended.

There is no comparison between NYC and San Francisco.

You can say that again. NYC is comprised of young people doing their 2 year post college urban living experiment. Soon, enough, they'll discover what millions of others who have moved on to FL and elsewhere already know.

Now, add to that mix ambitious, hustling immigrants, and the city maintains a buzz of energy and excitement for which it has long been famous.

Third, consider the ridiculously bad weather - hot or cold, and there is no one with any sense who isn't into the get-ahead hustle that is just going to occupy space enjoying the day.

My wife went to college in NYC and we still visit 2-3 times per year. I love it for a long weekend. Every now and then we'll fantasize about getting a small unit and possibly living short term during spring or fall, but it's always a pipe dream. No matter how much fun we have, the luster eventually is lost and we're glad to get back home.

CA/OR/WA/CO, OTOH, is the opposite of NY, the east coast and mid-west. This is where people actually want to live, including the mentally ill. They may be crazy, but they're not stupid.

Someone wiser than me once said if the USA was first populated from the west, no one would have ever moved back east. It's just nicer here, and that's a core fact. So, we get the homeless pouring in from the entire country, and posting up just about everywhere imaginable.

There’s a lot of truth to what you say. The reporting on San Francisco (close to me) is somewhat hyperbolic and overblown.

But, there is no doubt that the bums and druggies have spilled out of the notorious districts (Civic Center, Tenderloin) into other parts of the city that were once very clean. And the free needle program has caused 2 MILLION needles to litter the streets every year.

I moved to SF in 1973, then moved to the suburbs. It is definitely a lot worse than it was 46 years ago.

Also, there is no denying the incipient typhus epidemic in Los Angeles. A person in CITY HALL caught the disease from fleas there.

All of the ills you listed most definitely flow from the “liberal mindset.”

My second boss in California told stories of growing up on the streets of St. Louis in the 40s. The beat cops whacked the sleeping bums on the soles of their feet with their nightsticks with the warning “keep moving.” Bums were allowed to live in encampments in the cities and certainly weren’t allowed to sleep on benches, sidewalks, in doorways, etc.

The permissiveness and “anything goes; all cultures are equal” rot have irreparably corrupted the minds of so many people.

Wow...I “drove” quite a few blocks. Just staggering.

How in the world does this happen in a roaring economy? Too much “free stuff” available to everybody?

Just wait until the $1,000 a month “universal basic income” kicks in. I’ll bet these camps will EXPLODE.

Isn’t a healthy, roaring economy with lots of jobs the best antidote? (assuming you can get people off drugs and alcohol AND teach them a work ethic — two big ifs)

The news today says we have an all-time high number of job openings in the country - over 7 million jobs are available!
