Sheriffs are good loyal Americans and have earned all of our thanks. . (And let’s face it, they don’t want to risk their lives trying to impose a dictatorship for some cheap corrupt political hacks that don’t give a sh@&!anout sheriffs anyway). )
So the Washington state government doesn’t like it when the law is not followed?

These tyrants need to taste Justice (after arrest, fair trials and convictions, of course).
However, in the event a police chief or sheriff refuses to perform the background check required by Initiative 1639, they could be held liable if there is a sale or transfer of a firearm to a dangerous individual prohibited from possessing a firearm and that individual uses that firearm to do harm. In short, the taxpayers of your city or county assume the financial risk of your decision to impose your personal views over the law.

They really don’t want to go down that road. The same logic would then say any sanctuary city for illegal aliens is liable for crimes committed by illegals.

The Constitution is supreme.
The sheriffs are correct to not enforce it.
This is why Sheriffs are allowed greater leeway and responsibilities than pretty much every other elected official.
Within his jurisdiction, he has more power than even the governor of that state
This essentially King County (Seattle) vs the state’s small counties (real people).
Just following orders didn’t work at Nuremberg, and it won’t work here.

Sounds like the state is forcing counties and cities to enforce state laws.
