A long-sought pay raise for federal civilian workers appears to be packaged in appropriations bills to keep the government fully open for the rest of the fiscal year.
A 1.9 percent pay raise was included in the Senate funding bill that covered Treasury and general government operations in the last Congress, although at the time Republicans declined to sign on. Now the measure appears to be headed for inclusion in the final bill. In public comments, President Donald Trump has indicated that he's inclined to sign a compromise bill and look for additional funding for his border security priorities administratively.
Back pay for contractors furloughed during the 35-day shutdown had also been proposed as part of the funding bill, but Wednesday-night press reports said that provision was dropped from the final conference report.
According to Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), a Congressional Budget Office estimated that it would cost $1 billion to deliver back pay to contractors. The provision had put an emphasis on contractors with earnings under $50,000 per year.

Trump needs to demand dollar for dollar addition to wall funding for any pay raise ...
Change their pay scale so that it is based on a $ amount per personal text message to coworkers plotting to destroy our constitutional process! @ $1 per text message alone the DOJ would see milions in increases.
Yeah.
Look in the non-border sections of the bill to see what the Dem/RINOs are trying to get away with.
BS, theyre already overpaid.
No way. Most Feds are predatory scum leftist bureaucrats. They live in their technocratic bubble.
praying God moves swiftly against those against Him and this country He established with our founders.
Overpaid with way more benefits than they deserve.
If I recall correctly, Prez Zero doubled the pay of all federal workers during his terms. That begs the question of how does the pay of these judges compare with judges we might encounter in the state in which we live? Comparable? Or is the Fed. Judge paid much higher? The latter is my guess.
If that’s true, I say no raise til parity is reached!
Do you have a link to obama doubling the pay of federal workers? All I could find was that he gave them a pay freeze for three years.
You do not recall correctly. Average Federal civilian salary went from $81,258 in 2009, to $88,809 in 2016. Not to say that many jibs are doubtless overpaid, but a 9% increase over 8 years is not near a 100% increase.
Interestingly enough, a person making $81,258 in 2009 would need to make at least $95,338 in 2019 to break even (not accounting for progressive income tax rates at higher incomes). This is using the government’s CPI (+17.3% for last ten years) that many people believe significantly underestimates real inflation.
I dare say most Americans, including federal employees, are losing ground as the federal government continues to inflate away the value of our earnings. For example, someone earning $50,000 in 1999 would have to make over $75,000 today just to break even.
Even worse, many Americans compete against legal and illegal immigrants, suppressing wage increases for citizens. Worse, our political class (Republican and Democrat) wants to import even more workers! It’s downright disgusting!!!
How come Congress, paid a six figure salary can’t write and follow a freaking budget? I realize it’s easier to write blank checks on an in the red account but somehow that standard is only tolerated for them.
NO tell what else is hidden in the several thousand page bill besides a pay raise. All meant to Neuter President Trump.
