This had nothing to do with AOC, but she’s taking credit. It was strictly a business decision by Amazon seeing there were greener fields elsewhere and NYC wasn’t worth the hassle.

Taco Rosado jumped on the bandwagon here. The real players were gay socialist city councilman Jimmy van Bramer and the relatively old school Dem State Senator Mike Giannaris. The community of LIC did not want this. It was a NIMBY reaction as locals feared a further influx of millenials whose shopping habits tend to organic markets, vegan restaurants and craft beer bars. Landlords looking to capitalize might raise rents on local businesses to get them to leave so hipster friendly businesses would replace them. All but the construction unions were opposed too, since the wildly social liberal Bezos’ company is anti union. And to be honest, though Amazon claims 25K jobs at an average of $150K, the possibility of fifteen or 20 seven figure salaries goes a very long way to upping the average salary
