Amazon wasn't going to be hiring too many poor people. At $120,000 to $150,000 per job, these weren't janitors they were looking to hire.
AOC picked the right fight here. The Amazon site wasn't in her district, but her constituents were going to pay the cost of making up all the lost tax revenues from the Amazon deal.

The City was going to pay $3B to Amazon for 25K low-wage jobs. Corporate cronyism at its worst.
NYC can attract its own jobs and doesn’t have an unemployment problem.
