GOP senators want assurances Trump will sign deal [Senate vote is being held up]

The White House is still vetting the massive spending deal that was released late Wednesday and is trying to get several questions answered, according to several Republican senators and aides.

GOP senators said they would like to get assurances that President Trump will sign the bill if it gets to his desk, possibly later today.

“We’d like to know it’s a bill the President is going to sign. Hopefully they will let us know,” said Sen. John Thune, the second-ranking GOP leader as he left a Republican conference lunch where the issue was discussed at length.

Sen. John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana, said getting sign off before a vote would “make a big difference.”

“Nobody wants to enter into a pointless exercise if the President is going to veto it,” Kennedy said.

“There are a lot of people, myself included, who would like to know what the President thinks.”

Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford said there are about four outstanding issues the White House is questioning.

“Obviously, the White House is going through it, reading it, the same thing we are,” he said. “We just got it at midnight last night. We are just 14 hours into a 1,000 pages.”

“Every time there is a question that comes up, they try to identify why is this in here, what does this mean, how does it affect other parts," Lankford added,

Sen. Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin, echoed those who thought it would be good to get the President’s approval before a vote.

“Waiting to see what the President is thinking,” Johnson told CNN. “Doesn’t make much sense to support something he’s going to veto.”

Still to be seen what the story will be with Barr.

Doesn’t make up for this horrible bill.

Isn’t that what they SHOULD DO?

#10 None. You can’t agree to it in Legislation by signing it into Law then turn around and fight it by declaring its effects are an Emergency.

WTF?

Trump always wills stand alone as long as the GOPe is funded by the Koch Brothers, and the Chamber of Commerce, cheap labor minions.

Trump truly has support from maybe 1/3 of the republican delegation in the house and senate, the other 2/3 will stab him the first chance they think they can get away with it.

Why isn’t the Senate trying to amend this mess and send it back to the House for reconciliation? And why do they always wait until the last minute to vote on a 1,000+ page bill before anyone can read it completely?

I’m sure if they were personally liable for anything in these documents, they would have more due diligence. But as it is, they suffer no of the consequences for passing poorly written legislation.

Why the H would Trump tell McConnell he would sign. He should have told him he didn’t know since he hadn’t read it and then let those weak-ass GOP senators vote any way they wanted. They might have actually voted against it and then a future shutdown would lay right where it belongs — at lying, two-faced McConnell. Hope Trump has a bigger plan. Declaring an emergency will only delay everything by putting any action at the mercy of the leftist judges.

The only person I fully trust in Washington DC to fix an f’ed up immigration system is Donald J. Trump. These idiots are voting on a 1,000 page bill that nobody even read, and we have a $22 trillion national debt. I bet there are hundreds of political carve outs.

Spit.

Remember when people got extremely angry when Trump signed that ridiculous omnibus package and they got slapped down as being hysterical and that trump was playing 10D chess, and trump promised he will never betray the tax payers again by never singing a multi billion dollar poison pill laden christmas wish list for the democratic party so it was going to be ok? Well, here we are again. I will forgive him for not quickly getting the wall as the entire government is fighting him tooth and nail on it simply because trump wants it...he does not have god powers. But this promise, if broken, I will not forgive. He has the power to sign or not sign. If he signs this monstrosity, it will be an admission that nancy pelosi and the democrats ARE the president, and we will see an endless media blitz of smirking democrats gloating and yucking it up that every one of their deficit busting wishes was funded by trumps pen and that we have zero fiscal restraint whatsover.

So, Mr president...you stand upon the shores of the Rubicon, do you stand with the american people, or do we start a new chapter of dems gone wild?

Trump should have his lawyers read thru it before signing.

If they had doneb their job right they wouldn’t have to worry about it. Their action prove they didn’t do their job. They need to be replaced in the primaries.

If it’s this wonderful bipartisan bill, then shouldn’t it have enough support to override a presidential veto?
