GOP senators want assurances Trump will sign deal [Senate vote is being held up]

The White House is still vetting the massive spending deal that was released late Wednesday and is trying to get several questions answered, according to several Republican senators and aides.

GOP senators said they would like to get assurances that President Trump will sign the bill if it gets to his desk, possibly later today.

“We’d like to know it’s a bill the President is going to sign. Hopefully they will let us know,” said Sen. John Thune, the second-ranking GOP leader as he left a Republican conference lunch where the issue was discussed at length.

Sen. John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana, said getting sign off before a vote would “make a big difference.”

“Nobody wants to enter into a pointless exercise if the President is going to veto it,” Kennedy said.

“There are a lot of people, myself included, who would like to know what the President thinks.”

Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford said there are about four outstanding issues the White House is questioning.

“Obviously, the White House is going through it, reading it, the same thing we are,” he said. “We just got it at midnight last night. We are just 14 hours into a 1,000 pages.”

“Every time there is a question that comes up, they try to identify why is this in here, what does this mean, how does it affect other parts," Lankford added,

Sen. Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin, echoed those who thought it would be good to get the President’s approval before a vote.

“Waiting to see what the President is thinking,” Johnson told CNN. “Doesn’t make much sense to support something he’s going to veto.”

Trump should tell them to clean out the poison pills and go to a conference committee.

Notice how the Dems operate. The Republican House rules had three days to review bills. The Dems offer a matter of hours!

They want assurances that he’ll sign the bill before he reads the bill? How did the nation survive this long?

We remember the same things. Back when President Trump signed Traitor Ryan's unbalanced budget with no wall funding, he said he wasn't happy with it. So why did he sign it? There was no multi-dimensional Chess and master strategy, which we were told. He lost the equivalent of a Tic-Tac-Toe game to Paul Ryan and the other DeepState/Illuminati who hate their voting fodder.

Now they're asking him to promise he'll sign the bill before anyone has had time to read it. The strategic answer should be that he'd sign an order keeping the gov't open one more week so everyone has time to read the bill before they vote for it.

I read elsewhere that the Smithsonian got $1 billion. Also that foreign countries got money.

You can bet your bottom dollar that planned parenthood got some nice coin as well. How much I wonder?

What a mockery they have made of this whole thing.

So...much...this ^^^^

Not only the strategic answer, it should have been the ONLY answer.

All but 16 Republican Senators can go to hell...

Folks think about it. What was Trump's choice?

Both margins are veto busting margins.

It's a waste of time to play hardball on this. It's over and Trump has more important things to do.

Do I like it? I detest it. Rush said it was a dirty rotten bill, or something close to that. None of us like this cr_p.

The senate vote was: Yea 86 Nay 16 LINK

The House vote was: Yea 300 Nay 128 LINK

This evening I heard an analysis by a former high level military person (didn’t hear the name). He was saying the emergency can not legally take money out of the military budget that has been earmarked/voted by Congress for other purposes. This will probably go to court, and even to the Supremes. Be interesting to see how the new guys vote on this separation of powers Constitutional issue.

There are other places besides military.....but on that note he can use military funds from designated areas just as they have done in their own states. Who do they think they’re kidding!

Yes it will. As the CIC, it would seem he could have some control over the money. Can’t say that categorically though.

These bastards should be charged with treason for trying shove this POS through. I am afraid there is very little chance of a veto even though it’s filled with little gems to handcuff Trump’s ability to use alt funds and means to build the wall. We are screwed l fear. Once Taxes goes it is over.
