There were some mass killings of Jews around 1946, 1500 killed. Theories range from the Poles blaming the Jews for the nightmare they were forced to live through to Poles who took Jewish property scared that the Jews would reclaim it.

Richard Cohen, leftist writer, absolutely BLASTED Helen Thomas when she said to the Jews in Israel “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine. ... Go home. Poland. Germany. And America and everywhere else.”

It was one of those columns you never forget, both for how he blasted her and the fact that this little tidbit about Poland seems forgotten in history - but not to Mr. Cohen.

I didn't know that. I do know that Poland was a safe harbor for Jews for a very long time and thus more Jews lived there pre WWII than all other nations combined. It has always rankled me that there is so much anti-Polish sentiment among a few folks on here given that long history of tolerance.

I think we have to consider all aspects and use some balance in our thinking. Poles don't deserve the generalized hatred coming from some, and at the same time the atrocities that occurred shouldn't be ignored.

Sorry, that's false. 1500 were not killed due to anti-semitism and there was only one (one too many) mass killing - at kielce where 42 jews were murdered. But out of the 1500 - historian Jan Gross who cited Dobroszycki, informed that only a fraction of these deaths can be attributed to antisemitism and that most were due to general postwar disorder, political violence and banditry -- lots of other people lost their lives due to the same reason.

The 1500 was spread all over the country and only a fraction was due to anti-semitism.

The Kielce Pogrom, which was instigated by the NKVD.
