I knew what the Arab Spring really was, my Egyptian friends did too. I was waist deep helping them explain how bad Morsi and the MB were. And I was in the cheering section when General Sisi put Morsi and the top 1,000+ MB in prison.
I still have good friends there from that era.

I worked with a Copt who was desperately trying to get his elderly parents out of the hellhole Egypt was under the Muslim Brotherhood. He was absolutely THRILLED that he finally met an American* who understood the Brotherhood, without needing him to explain them.
*Obviously, by ‘American’, I mean an American without a connection back to that part of the world - he was American also, and I know he has many Egyptian-American friends, but I was first for him.
