And what about Jews, like Chaim Rumkowski, and all of the Jewish KAPOs, who tortured their fellow Jews in the Ghettoes? Are they any less worthy of contempt as some of these Poles? It was war, in some it brings out the best, in others, the worst, that's Universal.
I hate KAPOS like Soros who liked what he was doing as opposed to those who had to do it at gunpoint, though some resisted and were killed.
Calling someone a KAPO is to me, as a Jew and a member of a Holocaust wiped out (European family), the greatest insult one Jew can assign to another.
The Sonnderkommandos were eventually killed by their Nazi guards to wipe out any eyewitnesses to the Nazi war crimes in the camps and elsewhere. Survivor SKs carried around so much guilt that many killed themselves.
This also happened to young Cambodians kidnapped by the Khmer Rouge at a very young age and turned into executioners, some of their parents. Those stories will make you cry. I met a couple Cambodian survivors, Dith Pang and Han Ngor “(of the movie “The Killing Fields”). They suffered internally far more than is known.
I was the only journalist to testify before Congress (July 1974 and April 1975) warning of the genocide to come in Cambodia, as I was given a Secret US intelligence analysis of Khmer Rouge occupation tactics in one part of Cambodia, by a friend. Got it while I was visiting him at the National Security Council’s Vietnam office.

Just for S&Gs, a late friend of mine was one of the lead investigator/interrogators of the Malmedy Massacre, then Lt. or Capt. William Perl. In his earlier life in Austria, he helped to save an estimated 40,000 Jewish children by establishing a smuggler operation that took them over the Alps to Palestine or possibly to America.
