Only if 100% of the current gas tax has been spent on road maintenance for the last 5 years in a row. Any missing funds stolen for other pet projects must be returned in full FIRST.
Everytime the cookie jar is down to crumbs, politicians suddenly remember the roads and bridges they have refused to fix for the last twenty years and scream gas tax.
In our town, they put the Vote for Road Tax sign right next to the biggest pothole on Main Street.
I called them extortionists, and voted no.
They don’t want to fix potholes, just leverage them.

Highway worker puts up sign “Watch for Potholes”, and reports back to boss, I took care of the pothole problem.
