I have to confess that I never really took any notice of the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died yesterday at the age of 85. It puts me in the frame of mind of my old mentor M. Stanton Evans, who with his usual talent for piercing pretentious liberal cliches once joked, I know we all remember vividly where we were when we first heard the shocking news that Gianni Versace had been assassinated.
But Lagerfeld was controversial for comments like this: One cannot even if there are decades between them kill millions of Jews so you can bring millions of their worst enemies in their place. (That comment was directed at Frau Merkel.) He also didnt care for the #MeToo movement, saying: What shocks me most in all of this are the starlets who have taken 20 years to remember what happened. Not to mention the fact there are no prosecution witnesses.
He should know youre not allowed to say things like this.
I think I rather like this guy.

Like, use his — Kalone..LOL....
Bump.
PC?......snot!
Over 40 years ago I bough Lagerfeld cologne. He was influential for a long time before that.
He was a brilliant, talented man doing what he loved to do. And he did it really well.
I heard he left all his money to his cat!
Love him or hate him he did not give a flip about what people thought of his opinions. He was a true fashion icon.
There’s a documentary series on Netflix called “7 Days Out,” about the run-up to major events and all the behind-the-scenes preparation. There’s one on the Kentucky Derby, one on NASA getting ready to send the Cassini probe into Saturn, one about a fancy restaurant getting ready to open, and one on Lagerfeld getting ready for a big Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week. I really don’t care much of anything about haute couture fashion, but the show was fascinating, just to see what goes into it.
Hugo Boss knew how to design snazzy uniforms.
Emilio Pucci rescued Benito Mussolini’s daughter (Count Ciano’s wife).
Was Langerfeldt even in the Hitler Youth?
Yeah, and he half-joked that he would have married her, if it was legalthat no human he ever met unconditionally loved him like she did.
I understand where he’s coming from, at least from the standpoint of I love my cat too, but I don’t think I’d go THAT far, LOL. :P
Yikes, some of that isn’t very PC is it.
I was going to remain quietly silent regarding his death. I don’t like going on the record trashing most folks when they die. It was my thought he was probably a big Lefty. So many in that industry seem to be these days.
It seems I didn’t know his whole story though, and I must say I approve of what was mentioned here.
That comment addressing the Jews and their worst enemies was incredibly on point. What a masterpiece of a cutting observation.
Lager field also marketed his own handbags under his name. I have a couple. They have all the Chanel flair without the price tag. I do have 1 Chanel Ive had for about 18 years.
Darn iPhone. Lagerfeld
Well his comment to Merkel was dead-on.
That Westminster segment reminded me of one of the best mocumentaries out there, Best in Show. Im sure most have seen it, but if not, do yourself a favor and stream it. Great comedy, non-stop laughs.
