There were several alarmist "ice-age-predicting scientists." involved in the production.

Within twenty years, other equally emotionally-convincing "scientists" would predict that a global warming period was certainly coming right around the corner and the world's governments all needed to fund (speculative) research so the scientific community to forestall the worst effects of what was to come!

These idiots were wrong both go-arounds. God has shown they should be embarrassed, but they are arrogantly not.
