Back in high school, in the 1960s, I reported on an article I had read in 'TIME' magazine: We were going to run out of oil! Soon!! By the year 2010, there would be none left...zero...zilch!!!

The teacher just smiled, said "Don't worry so much, Thar. They've been saying that for years...to justify the 'Oil Depletion Allowance ' tax break for oil companies. And, besides, by then we'll probably all be driving nuclear-powered cars. Good report though...C+."

The measured data shows more about the relative motion of the land than any change in surface level of the ocean. If you look at the data from NOAA you will see that some locations show increasing ocean levels while others show decreasing ocean levels. Such a situation cannot be caused by additional water being added to the ocean, since some measured levels are decreasing while others are increasing.

In some places there are slight increases, but the largest of those is 3 feet per century at Eugene Island, LA, which is likely to be primarily due to land subsidence. At that rate a ten foot change will require more than 300 years.

At the rates shown for New England locations a ten foot change could require 1000 years.

You can see the data here

There is actually an effect that the climate alarmists are using to their advantage and it’s very real.

The greatest effect is in Chesapeake Bay, but there is likely evidence all along the eastern seaboard spanning New England down to the Carolinas.

It’s called land subsidence. Sea level isn’t rising: The East Coast is sinking, but the effect for simple minds is the same.

The cause is the crustal rebound from the Laurentine Ice Sheet’s melting. There is a corresponding effect from a meteor impact near Cape Charles and from depletion of groundwater from aquifers.

But it’s easy to make up your own science when you ignore what’s been “settled” elsewhere...
