There are at least 26 defined ethnic groups in Mexico alone, to say nothing of those across Central and South America and the Caribbean.
‘Racism’ is always a non-starter but never more so than when the supposed targets of it aren’t even a single race or ethnicity.
Cultural friction? Of course. This is an English-speaking, Judeo-Christian nation founded and advanced mostly by those of European descent.

Quite a generalization. In Texas or California some families of Mexican origin have been in this country for generations. Do they not fit in?
This racism versus assimilation thing is a false opposition. If Latinos have problems it's because so many of them are recent arrivals. And they don't speak English. Or they live in areas where the economy is bad. But plenty of those who've been here a while have assimilated and are assimilating.
When I drive to Miami, I tune my radio through the AM dial. Miami is a foreign country!
