Federal officials and energy experts offered their most blunt assessment to date regarding the ongoing vulnerability of the U.S. power grid, telling a Senate committee that solar-generated attacks alone cost $10 billion a year.
In testimony before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Operations Committee, the officials noted that the attacks are growing and pose a substantial, long-term risk to a vulnerable power grid.
They warned that a catastrophic failure would cut off electricity to millions of Americans, probably for months at a time, causing untold damage and social chaos, adding that the grid is an easy target for solar, nuclear, and even small arms attacks by terrorists.
We are still incredibly vulnerable, Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said after hosting a two-hour roundtable to address poor grid security.

I am in the industry, I question that number.
I want examples.
So what do they mean Solar Attack, somebody got a great big magnifying glass?
So the sun is attacking us? Never let it out of your sight. Unfortunately, it has all night to plot against us.
$10 billion dollars a year in solar flare activity downtime or damage is a real emergency.
Just think of what kind of emergency $140 billion dollars a year lost money due to illegal immigration would be.
Wow. They actually literally mean the sun attacking us, as if it were a sentient being.
the officials noted that the attacks are growing
So the sun is plotting more attacks? This sounds like the crap AOC would spew!
Mind you... solar flares could spell deep doo doo.
The sun often has "Coronal Holes", vast openings in its "atmosphere" where huge releases of solar wind take place. If this occurs at a time the hole faces the earth, we get huge disruptions here on Earth. Here is a picture of a hole aimed at us:
Dang solars...I never did trust them. They were always like “Yeah, dude. We got your back...we got you covered.”.
Then you find out they’re like night and day. Here today, gone tomorrow.
Well before AOC, there was the The solar storm of 1859 (also known as the Carrington Event)
At the time it only wiped out telegraph lines. Today, an event like this would easily do what the article suggests.
I would think $10 billion a year would pay for a lot of grid hardening.

Nameless “officials” are cited but no actual data is given. Much puffery about other unrelated things and a Doom and Gloom response from Ron Johnson who we know is not a subject matter expert.
Basic critical thinking skills give reason for questioning the veracity of this article. Researching the actual facts would provide more insight, but $140 billion is a lot of money for a problem that doesn’t seem to be very visible.

Make me (us) feel better.
How good/bad is it?
I had to look twice but in the end I ASSUMED there was some sort of weapon that utilized SOLAR ENERGY to perform the attacks
LOL
Perhaps it should have been worded differently
Last time I turned my back on it I got a bad burn!
Ask me what it is like to be without power for 51 days straight.
Ocasionaly-Concious will be asking for higher taxes to curb solar farts.
