I asked a teacher friend of mine about this since she taught “English as a Second Language”(ESL)classes. She said wasn’t just teaching them English,but they were illiterate in their native language. So first she had to teach the basics of Spanish (Mexican is a mix of Spanish and local languages in each region) and then English. Two courses in the same time allotted to one.
A growing proportion of the states MLL student community is older than other students at their grade level, leaving them less time to finish high school by the age of 21.

In my grandkids school in Washington, 50% of the kids spoke Spanish.

My mom never spoke a word of English until she started at the one room schoolhouse in 1923. She graduated from high school with honors.
I am strangely unmoved by the effects of having cast out the melting pot notion.

And the teachers (must be bilingual to work there) are the MOST libtarded libbies you ever saw. They are all out for these kids. They'd have you chop off their left hand before they would dime out these kids to ICE. They even set up a waffle maker in the lobby and handed out fresh waffles to anyone who arrived on time (LOTS of late arriving students at this school, as Hispanics don't seem to operate on the same concept of promptness as we do--just not in a hurry to come and do work and learn).
All of this, in a sparkling new building, for people who don't even belong in this country in the first place.
Here is an excerpt from a school-reviewing website: "Students at _______ International High School all speak Spanish and have been in the United States for less than four years. They come from Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Colombia and other countries. The principal, secretaries and counselors speak Spanish, but most of the teachers speak English only. The goal is to help children learn English, finish high school and prepare for college.
Instead of the traditional Regents exams that most high school students take, ____ High School students write research papers and do oral presentations called portfolios in some subjects, such as science, social studies and native language arts (Spanish), according to the yearly plan. [Regents exams are statewide standard tests measuring mastery of material. Having portfolios instead is a TOTAL BALONEY hack instead of taking the Regents exams. No wonder they have an 89% graduation rate--another of the typical NYC grossly inflated graduation rates.]
By the time they are seniors, students are expected to speak and write in English. Faster learners may take difficult classes, such as physics, and college courses in literacy, psychology or Latino USA, according to the yearly plan. All 12th-graders take AP Spanish Literature."
..._____ International High School is part of a network of high schools across the country that are designed for new immigrants. There are more than a dozen International schools in New York City.
Even with their touted 89% graduation rate, there is still this. The school rating website's review of this school includes:
"How many students graduate with test scores high enough to enroll at CUNY (the system of City Universities) without remedial help?" 45%
Nuff said.
They need more people around them in the school setting that speak their language, there I fixed it, idiot style

They could speak Italian at home but had to speak English in public.
One son graduated 1st in his class from Pitt med school in 1939 and went on to become Eisenhower's #1 medical guy in WWII.
Came up with the idea for what later became known as MASH.
All of the kids succeeded; doctors, lawyers, nurses, business.
None went to jail or were on welfare.
Makes sense to me. If they can’t speak English, how can they be expected to know anything?
Oh, I forgot to mention...these "immigrants" are usually the offspring of those migratory workers and at best, have had a little schooling here and a little schooling there, following the cycle of the various crops to be picked. As a consequence, they are actually ILLITERATE in their native language--Spanish. Therefore, teachers here have to teach them to read and write in their OWN native language as well as English. All these expensive resources wasted on people who don't belong here in the first place.
For the Central American segment & much of Mexican demographic of that population their native language is not even Spanish but an Indian dialect. Which probably isn’t written. Spanish is their second & likely not well learned language. It’s hard for me to imagine how the Chamber of Commerce, Koch Brothers anyone can make any economic for their retention. Criminal behavior issues aside even if they were all angels training them to do any economic activity besides work a shovel seems to be almost insurmountable.

Silly me — I thought that New York had actually given the non-English speaking students flunking grades.
I’ve pointed out that in NJ, many of our schools would close without these trafficked illegal children - so the border will NEVER be closed. The teachers’ unions own one of the two major parties, have operatives across the nation scattered throughout towns, and their tenure policies ensure a steady stream of taxpayer money directly into Dem coffers.
This country will not tolerate ghost towns in its worst areas for workers and businesses (which both flee); they’ll keep importing Third Worlders - and not the winners anymore - and pass on all of their costs to the dwindling American population.
