The scaling on the vector truck image needs to be tweaked slightly; I may already have done so; will check my (extensive) files.
But, my conclusion doesn't change.
FYI, another look at the analysis which happens to be "up and handy":

P.S. Don't miss the little "nudge" at the bottom... '-)
Had no idea you'd been around since the early days of the (all-Text) Internet... '-)
Why wasn't the NTSB analysis submitted at the trial? Because it contradicted both both defense and prosecution claims?

The train engine in that view confused lots of folks as to which direction the train was traveling. It happened to stop adjacent to the crossing, but it was the rear "pusher" engine -- which was headed to the left. The lead engine that collided with the truck stopped (naturallly!) a full train-length away down the track to the left -- with its front pair of wheels derailed off to its right side....
The "easter egg" is in the original photo, and is at the far left on the lower "skirt" of the engine.
Does that look like an evenly-spaced row of four bullet holes, to you?
Whatever they are, there is almost zero probability that they were associated with this incident, IMO...
I mention the "whatzits" mainly to illustrate the difference between "looking at" a photo (and jumping to a conclusion) versus examining a photo for evidence -- with the eye of a trained observer/analyst. '-)
~~~~~~~~~~
<RANTMODE>IMO, far too many folks (including FReepers) jump to the conclusion they want, (sabotage in this case) rather than taking the (considerable) effort to examine and analyze all available evidence -- before drawing a conclusion...</RANTMODE>
I don't know if NTSB testified at the trial. All I know is that (per their website) the NTSB Final Report (which should include far more photos than they've published + detailed, scale maps) apparently has not been published yet.
I've been doing archaeology on two T&P (near-identical) wrecks on the same (bad) [now long-abandoned and bypassed] curve -- and, those NTSB Final Reports are very helpful... Unfortunately, not so with this wreck...
If anyone is interested, I may see what else in my files on the "GOP/Trash Truck" wreck might be worth the effort of posting here on FR...
