ADVANCE, N.C. -- A neighborhood and school community are having difficult conversations with their children after a former Davie County elementary school employee was charged with 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Parents of Shady Grove Elementary School students received a voice message from Principal Sarah Maier notifying them that Jason Banks, 48, had been arrested by the Davie County Sheriff's Office.
Davie County Schools tells FOX8 Banks worked as a speech language pathologist for the school system. He has been on leave since Jan. 22.
Deputies say Banks is charged with 10 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 10 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Banks’ arrest warrants show he filmed, recorded and possessed videos of a young child fully and semi-naked, engaged in sexual activity. The recordings were allegedly taken between May 5 and July 8, 2018.
Documents show the young child was 11 years old when the alleged crimes began and had turned 12 as they were ongoing.
“Of course I was shocked and thankful that my daughter didn’t have him as a teacher,” said one of Banks’ former neighbors, who didn’t want to be identified, but also has a child at Shady Grove. “It is a little scary knowing that somebody lives not too far away from you and is facing those types of charges.”
Banks’ address listed on his arrest warrants is at the end of a cul-de-sac in Advance, where children would often play, according to neighbors.
Today, a “For Sale” sign is in front of the home. The real estate company tells FOX8 the home was put up for sale in late January, around the time Banks went on leave from the school system.

I knew immediately when I saw the ages 11 and 12 that the kids were male, and I verified that in another online article. In the Fox article, the mother worried about her young daughter need not have been concerned. This is the standard, Catholic priest-type abuse. The victims are POST-pubescent, not PRE-pubescent males. They are adolescents, not children. Pedophiles are attracted to prepubescent children.
There seems to be no word that specifically describes homosexual attraction to early post-pubescent males. The closest is "hebephilia," but unfortunately that can apply to both sexes.
Maybe the best we can do is to call the men with this sexual preference "pederasts," though there are problems with that word, too.
We definitely should stop pretending that the typical man who engages in this sort of homosexual abuse is interested in seven year old girls. He is not.

The victims were 81% male, and over 70% of those abused were between 10 and 15. The vast majority, but not the entirety, of the abuse was of post-pubescent males.
If you object to my saying that the mother should not have been worried for her daughter, I accept the criticism as correct. I retract the statement. It just seems too typical for the press to avoid mentioning that the victims here were male, while mentioning the at-risk daughter.

Not at all. The vast majority of these cases are homosexual assaults. My Boy Scout scoutmaster did jail time for his sexual assaults on my friends. It is what it is and the statistics are undeniable. That you are trying to minimize the facts at hand is “very telling really.”

Thank you for your words, I was not physically abused but what my siblings went through weighs on you as there was nothing that was done to stop it. Only when he was confronted did he take his own life rather than face the music and there was no justice for the victims, not even an “I am sorry” for what I did to you.
