N orth Korean state media brushed over the failure to reach a deal in its coverage of the Vietnam summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un, indicating that hope remains for progress in future negotiations. The headline on the front page of Rodong Sinmun, the country's official newspaper, made no mention of the collapse in talks and the lack of agreement, instead proclaiming how well the summit had gone. The newspaper referred to the "constructive and candid exchange" that the US and North Korean leaders had during their two days of meetings in Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital. The positive write-up was noted by US officials, who took heart from the fact that North Korea appeared to be playing down the rift ...

this article is a more accurate representation of what actually went down: ""To give many, many billions of dollars in sanctions relief would in effect put us in a position of subsidising the ongoing development of weapons of mass destruction in North Korea," a senior US administration official said. The Vietnamese media was covering the bilateral meeting with Kim pretty heavily.

Let’s see. After Trump left, it looked to me like Kim might be reconsidering.

Maybe.

I think Kim walked in and had this list in his mind: (1) US troops leaving S. Korea, (2) economic sanctions totally dropped, (3) US agricultural product delivery to stall off food shortages, and (4) trade deals....ALL on the table. Trump likely said sure...if you put the nukes on the table and end all research/testing. Kim got push-back from his generals...because this whole Trump-landscape is about a North Korean transformation, and the generals would all be giving up a massive amount of their lifestyle.

I suspect by October....another meeting will be held (probably again in Vietnam), and Kim will agree to the Trump proposal. All of this...if it goes through....will mean massive US troop withdrawals from various foreign lands (eventually from Europe as well).

JMHO, I believe the Nork’s are watching our politics and the slams against Prez Trump by the Rats and the media. They may be waiting to see what happens in the 2020 election to see if they have a Rat Prez to deal with. In other words back to dealing with a Zero type of Prez. Just sayin’

Just remember, as well, two things:

First off NK is to some degree alligned with China. It remains to be seem, whether Trump is any different toward China than all the other presidents who sold us out for the last generation and a half.

Not so far, despite sounding like he would be, initially. But we will see.

Second, China and North Korea are both Asian.

As such, they do not negotiate the same way, we so.

They just don’t. Ever.

I know.

I have supported Trump from the beginning. Really.

But America really, really, really needs to re-industrialize.

We do not need to “make a deal”.

We need to bring back American production. That is what Trump said he was all about, when we elected him.

His first term, is now half over.

NO PROGRESS at all yet.

Nothing.

Maybe.

I hope you are right.

Trump seemed to actually get it. He really did.

But nothing, so far...

What actually happened (and of course other things did as well) was that Kim and his delegation played a shell game. We will destroy the potemkin village of Yangbyon, all the while continue HEU enrichment and production (and shift more activity to other sites secretly) at a number of other DPRK facilities that US intelligence found out about, and these were specifically named by the President to Kim and his team, who were shocked and embarrassed and the whole thing fell apart. I would not even doubt that Bolton or Pompeo took the photos out, but in doing so that of course might show the Norks what we know and how we know it. It’s always debatable. At any rate, they clearly lost face alright but they are also duly pissed, and they lie to their people in their media afterwards, but they were never to be trusted and are never to be trusted. Never. Never. EVER.

With US politics doing flip flops every four years, it’s amazing we get any agreement with other countries.
