Tim Scott: Why I support President Trump’s national emergency declaration
The Post And Courier ^ | 3/3/19 | Tim Scott

As government funding has been so closely tied to this issue over the past few months, I would like to reiterate that keeping the government open is a good thing. However, my friends on the Democratic side of the aisle continue to ignore their responsibility to secure our borders and keep the American people safe. It is no secret that their hatred for our president now drives the policy-making decisions of those on the left, no matter how beneficial the policies are for families across the country. I support the president’s usage of a national emergency to take the responsible actions to secure our border, which must remain the top priority.

I believe the first step toward a solution is securing our border and fulfilling our duty to all Americans to provide a physically safe and economically prosperous country. Effective border security will help keep out criminal activity, terrorists, contraband, drugs and other public safety threats. Additionally, it will allow us finally to start making real and effective immigration system reforms. As over 800,000 cases sit in our country’s immigration court, it is obvious we are unable to effectively and efficiently grant asylum to those who truly need it or take up cases that have waited their fair share of time to have a chance at legally entering.

The time is now, and it starts with securing our borders.

Sen. Scott, thank you for stating truth. The fact the opposition cares nought to preserve their base, the AMERICAN people, should be brought to light at every opportunity.

Their hatred of this President clouds their judgement and drives their insanity. SO MUCH SO, they have failed in preserving AMERICAN LIVES in the Good, Old, USA.

The emergency declaration is a power provided to the President by a statute (National Emergency Act) passed by the Congress and signed by the President in 1976. It has been used by every President since.

The issue now is not this law, but the open borders practices that are supported by the Democrats in Congress and by certain Republican members of the Congress. The Democrats believe that open borders is an integral element of their long term strategy to import voters that they cannot recruit from Americans. Certain members of Congress from both parties have a financial interest in the open borders issue. Those members enjoy support from well heeled donors and some of them are being bribed by the cartels or some similar group to prevent the Federal Government to protect our borders. This is, of course, illegal but that never stopped corrupt politicians and both Houses of both parties have some number of corrupt members.

Hello, Mitch McConnell....you better get your butt into high gear and start acting like the Republican Majority Leader of the Senate, and get those rogue Senators of yours, Collins, Murkowski, Alexander, etc. to get behind our great POTUS and support and vote for all his executive actions...period. You are either with the American people and POTUS, Donald J. Trump or, you are against them.

If they cannot support our POTUS, tell these Traitors & Turncoats to cross the aisle and become Democrats...then they can really work to destroy the country.

McConnell, grow a spine, will ya!!! Are you a leader, or are you a “PANSY”!!!

too bad the good senator didn’t get it back in July when Ryan Bounds had to withdraw his nomination from the 9th circus because Scott wouldn’t vote to confirm.

Don’t bet on it.
My guess is that both SC Senators think that if they support a fence they can get an amnesty for the 30 million already here.

Which Republican Senators are receiving campaign donations or other payments to resist any border security support? Is McConnell among them?

McConnell’s biggest donors are Sheldon Adelson, Paul Singer, and One Nation PAC (Carl Rove). ‘Nuff said.

When Scott was elected I thought that he was a good choice for his position.

About 4 years later, with the Bounds fiasco behind him, he's starting to smell a little swampy.

I know that Obama spent billions without Congressional authorization, especially when he became a lame duck. Can anyone direct me to a good source where that is documented? Thanks.

I am so sick of the corruption. I always thought geese why
doesn’t some patriotic mogul get into office and break up this syndicate?

Trump did it. He and I think alike. Haha. Now they’re all over him. That’s expected. It’s a battle of titans. They will fight with everything they have. And no rules.

He would have done better to have brought a gang with him. He likely didn’t expect them to all be in on it.

We need to pray harder for him and us.

I don’t know that he’s always so good on immigration—so his constituents must really be strong on this one.
