O Canada: Can pretty-boy Justin Trudeau survive?
American Thinker ^ | 03/04/2019 | Peter Skurkiss

Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau is on the ropes. He has two thorns in his side that could either force his resignation or at least significantly dim chances for reelection in October.

The first problem is that Trudeau's former justice minister, Jody Wilson-Raybould, testified under oath before a parliamentary committee that Trudeau and his top aides tried to pressure her to drop the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin, a large engineering company headquartered in Montreal.

The company is accused of paying the late Libyan strongman Muammar Khadafy's family nearly $50 million in bribes between 2001 and 2011 to secure contracts. This is illegal according to Canadian law. SNC admitted to wrongdoing and was angling for an agreement to pay a fine rather than be criminally prosecuted. But Wilson-Raybould and her office stood firm and said no. In doing so, she testified: "I experienced a consistent and sustained effort by many people within government to seek to politically interfere in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion"

If convicted, the company would face a ten-year ban on bidding on projects in Canada and elsewhere. The political motive to help SNC is that the company is centered in Quebec, a province critical for Trudeau and his liberal party. If SNC is hurt, so is Quebec and so then is Trudeau. SNC's Chief Executive Neil Bruce argued that "an out-of-court settlement would be in the public interest because it would ensure employees, pensioners and suppliers wouldn't be harmed."

Wilson-Raybould argues in return what is an abstract point to today's liberal politicians -- the rule of law. It is worth noting Wilson-Raybould, herself a liberal, is the former justice minister because Trudeau removed her from that high-profile office in January and sent her to the Veterans Ministry, a lesser posting.

All he’s got to do is whip up hysteria about Trump and he will cruise to re-election.

And for all that money spent in bribes, what does the “preferred provider” have to show for it?

I don't think he will be able to weasel out of this one.

The print media is after his hide. Online media wants his head. The networks are soft pedaling this a bit, but the story is too big to go away.

Trudeau survives only as long as his caucus supports him. Rumor is that a third of them have turned against him. That is enough to bring down the government.

I think the chances are 50-50 that he leads his party in the next election in October. If he survives, the liberals will be decimated. Great news for Canada.

I doubt that would work. A very high amount of people support what Trump is doing here.

True.

Interestingly enough, it’s almost unheard of to hear an American say, “let’s wait to see what Trudeau supporters do.”

I mean, they will talk glowingly about legal pot and socialized health care, but when it comes to the mechanics of an election, not its outcome, Americans don’t listen or wait with bated breath to see which way the wind is blowing in Canada.

Growing up in Chicago, I heard weather reports, one after another, that said “an arctic cold front from Canada will be blowing into the area.”

So, nothing good came from Canada except maple syrup. But then there’s Vermont...

Sorry, feeling angry with my Canadian husband.

Which father...biological or the one whose last name he bears?

To low iq citizens in Canada and America (see b o), just appearing presidential (or prime ministerial) wins their vote.

That being said, I believe trudeau will be re-elected in a landslide.

Of course he does. As long as baby boomer women gush over how “dreamy” he is, and as long as he has the SJW vote almost completely locked up, he can do NO wrong.

About the ONLY media organisation up here, who is going after him with any sort teeth is the centre-right-leaning Sun Media. Almost everything else is either downplaying, or soft-pedalling the story for all they’re worth.

Turd-owe is their golden boy. The ONLY hope for him losing the election is if there is enough of a silent majority of male boomers, Gen Xers (who tend to skew more conservative), and enough folks outside the big city bubbles (Greater Toronto/Hamilton, Ottawa, Montréal and Vancouver, and the Tech-Triangle cities (Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph)) that their combined votes can overcome golden lady-boy Justine’s solid fan-base.

Far left as Canada has gone, I think there are enough "honest government" types still around to put the kind of check on this behaviour. The U.S. Democrats are incapable either out of personal self-interest or fear of personal destruction. Trudeau is not a scheming and malicious as the Clintons or the Obamas. There are likely more idealists in his circle.

We do know that the CBC will do everything in it’s power to help Pierre Jr. win another term. Just getting them to mention SNC was an effort.

Wilson-Raybould’s conduct does stand in very stark contrast to.....say, James Comey.
