This is how I see it...

The boat is sinking. The water is over the bow, and the stern is rising high over the water. Meanwhile, a voice cries out... "Wait! We must do something about the tableware. The spoons must be next to the knives!" Meanwhile the boat sinks lower and lower into the water, while the Captain tries desperately to stop the flood of water into the hull.

No, he's not.

And it's not hard to say that without vilifying or insulting Paul or Timpf or National Review.

I thought there was a difference between an “emergency declaration” and an executive order.

My understanding is that the President has the right to declare a national emergency pursuant to the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1621 & 1622). This Act allows Congress, with a 2/3 majority, to terminate a President's national emergency.

Pelosi has threatened to use 'National Emergency' under a democrat President to enact gun control. Absent a majority in Congress to end/stop such an edict from a democrat President, the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 & 1602) could prove to be an abusive provision, similar to what we've seen with Executive Orders.

Emergency Powers Act. He should put forward legislation to rescind it if he doesn’t like it.

“”Every single Republican I know decried President Obama’s use of executive power to legislate,””

What’s the matter with that man? THAT is not what the president is doing. He must have taken a hard knock to his head that wasn’t discovered when his neighbor went after him. All anyone has to do is listen to Mark Levin’s explanation of just why the demon-rats and Republicans are all wrong about this! Mark must be tearing his hair out. I believe he still has some, doesn’t he? Now I hear on the news tonight that 2 or 3 more Republicans will join him and the other turncoats! Throw the bums out!!!

I suppose NRO is National Review Online?

Well, NRO, Bush is no longer president. We have a President who has common sense, guts and a way of getting criticized by wimps like you and Rand Paul.
I hope both of your children can get some peaceful sleep with a copy of the constitution under their pillows.

Congress legally gave that power to the Presidency in 1976. If Paul does not like it, then let him lobby to have the entire power revoked - not just the one instance when Trump does what the Senate’s globalist masters don’t like.

I understand Rand appreciation. For procedure, but he needs to fight on Principal. He won’t though because he’s more concerned with the procedure. Meanwhile Dems piss on the procedure all the time! Rand if you can’t fight fire with fire then get the hell out of the Senate!

Miss Katherine, RINO politicians didn't understand that 2016 was not business as usual. Neither did the media or the intelligentsia.

Neither you, nor the media, nor politicians seem to understand that what's happening at the border means "not business as usual."

Some people are just slow learners.

Has Rand Paul made the same statement for any other National Emergency declaration? Has Congress even voted on other National Emergency declarations? Those that I recall were basically ignored or rubber stamped by Congress.

Congress gave this power to the president decades ago, I cannot recall that any previous declarations were met with this much push back.

The issue right now- Is there a National Emergency on the border? Anyone who says there is not is either seriously uninformed or supporting open border agenda. It really is that simple.

It is also switching horses in mid-stream to bring up the validity of a president having this power only now, when it concerns this issue after all these years of silence.

If Rand Paul and others don’t want any president to have this power then that is a separate issue and they need to address that. Voting against this Emergency declaration is supporting open borders and illegal immigration.

Congress needs to fix the asylum loophole and other immigration issues that are the root cause of this invasion. Congress ignoring these issues is what got us to this point.

With the laws and court decisions that have been made concerning enforcement and the way we deal with asylum if Congress does not fix this (and we all know this Congress will not) then the only hope of getting our border back under control is to BUILD THE WALL.

Rand Paul is wrong to reject it if he believes in the US federal Constitutional Republic. The democrats want to destroy our republic and the easiest way to do that is to ship in millions from third world countries who only know authoritarian governments.

As we chased ISIS from the territories it controlled, there were dedicated fighters who no longer had a place to rule. There is a very real danger that these men will try to repay the USA by illegally entering and then attacking civilians.

Trump is 100% correct that the porous borders put us at great risk to terrorist attack. The idea of fighting
