Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio said Thursday that he will not run for president in 2020, a decision that comes after months of preparations for the Democratic primaries and just days after he appeared to be leaning toward a launch later this month.
Brown, who revealed his plans in a conference call with home-state reporters, said he could be more effective in the Senate, where he just won a third term.

The SMART dems who are in this race, are using it purely to build out their donor and national support network for a run in 2024. They will stick around (hopefully for them) long enough to do this, and then get out....
No one wants the millstone around their neck of losing to Trump in 2020, when they run in 2024.
The D candidate in 2020’s role will simply be like Dole in 1996, and McCain in 2008 to try to keep the base engaged, so they show up on Election Day, so you don’t wind up with a slaughter in the down ballot races.
The 2020 D Nominee will either be an old back bencher who knows and accepts this assignment, or a young fool who doesn’t realize they are a sacrificial lamb.

Unless the economy tanks big time, between now and November 2020, there isn’t a state Trump took in the rust belt that the dems have any shot at flipping... MI is probably the ONLY state that they MIGHT be able to get back to blue, but with the strong economy, that’s not a given in the least...
I’d say 2020, the odds of MI going back to blue are about the same as MN going Red... I don’t see any of the other states up here changing from their 2016 outcome (other than margins).
