"Friedman made it known he was not necessarily bashing Omar for criticism of Israel nor foreign policy, but the way in which she went about it. "

Friedman grew up in a Minneapolis suburb now represented by Omar.

Thomas Friedman’s mother was horrified by his antiAmerican and antiIsrael screeds.

Thomas Friedman has been so wrong about so many things, it is a little hard to attribute much weight to his opinions.

Israel, though “deserving” of criticism, was criticized in the “wrong way” by Ilhan Omar? Anti-Semitism is all subject to the same limitation, there is no “right way” to deliver it.

Ilhan Omar was supposed to have fled Somalia, because of “religious persecution”. Well, the persecution, such as it was, was NOT coming from anyone of Jewish connections, so she cannot blame THAT on the Jews or even the Zionist Jews. The “religious persecution” was being administered by OTHER Muslims, and most probably, it was because she was the “wrong kind” of Muslim.

Muslims are in far greater danger from other Muslims, than ever they could be from any other religion or ideology.

That bridge has always been totally illusory. People who try to cross it drown when they fall into the gulf below it.

Friedman is definitely a fool. But he is a very useful fool for the Dems. He is trying to do damage control as they cannot have Jews rethinking their allegiance to the Dem party.

I am not sure how much of it is wishful thinking, but I am one of those who thinks we may be seeing early signs of a shift in party loyalties buy Jews. The shift is being driven partly by Dems increasingly open connections with anti-semites, and partly by the death of those whose loyalty is due to Truman recognizing Israel, and Roosevelt saving the Jews in WWII (not exactly true, but try telling them that).

A shift from 70% Dem voting to 70% Republican voting in less than 20 years would cause so much trouble for the organized Jewish pressure groups (e.g. ADL) and the press that relies on them for regular denunciations of Republicans as racists.
