RETURN OF THE SOWELL MAN: The best economist is black, and he’s back in the battle.
Front Page Mag ^ | March 11, 2019 | Lloyd Billingsley

“Even the best things come to an end,” wrote Thomas Sowell in a December, 2016, column headlined “Farewell.” At the age of 86, the great economist had decided to stop writing his column and “spend less time following politics and more time on my photography.” Since then, Sowell has been rather quiet, but current political trends have prompted him to re-emerge.

“Socialism is a wonderful sounding idea,” Sowell recently told Fox Business. “It’s only as a reality that it’s disastrous.” A former Marxist, Sowell began to see the difference between reality and rhetoric. “When you see people starving in Venezuela and fleeing in the neighboring countries and realize that this is a country that once had the world’s largest oil reserves, you realize that that’ve ruined a really good prospect with ideas that sounded good but didn’t turn out well.”

Those who wonder who this guy is might take a cue from NBA great Charles Barkley, who in 2000 quipped that “the best rapper out there is white and the best golfer is black.” As it happens, the best economist is also black, and his name is Thomas Sowell. He dropped out of high school and served as a photographer in the Marines during the Korean War. He was the first in his family to attend college and earned a BA from Harvard, a master’s from Columbia and a PhD from the University of Chicago.

The Hoover Institution scholar has probed the world of ideas in books such as Basic Economics, Economic Facts and Fallacies, and Wealth, Poverty and Politics. He is also the author of The Economics and Politics of Race, Ethnic America, Affirmative Action Around the World, and the 1985 Marxism: Philosophy and Economics. Sowell’s conservative economics and criticism of affirmative action have drawn vicious

I wish that were true. Dr. Sowell is a brilliant man who has been a true gift to this country. But she is a fresh young face, pitching appealing if unworkable ideas, with a smile and a bit of salsa dancing on a rooftop. In our style over substance society I would not want to bet my paycheck on the outcome. Besides Dr. Sowell is 86 and his time is no doubt short.

I know what you mean, our world loves fluffy fiction (AOC and the likes) over factual reality (Dr. Thom).

And it’s worse than you think. Dr. Sowell is 88, 89 on June 30.

And a big Semper Fi, Dr. Sowell!

I don’t see Socialism or Capitalism as the ideal economic solution. I prefer the concept of Entrepreneurialism whereby the goal is to create something of use to the world which pays enough to keep you and yours in a healthy economic state, but does not have the goal of all money, all the time. More later.

Maybe that's why he's back. To be yet another never-Trumper thorn in the President's side.

We'll see,

Thomas Sowell is the kind of man I have no problem whatsoever imagining sitting at the Continental Congress.

That is my highest compliment of any man.

AOC would not be possible without the mainstream media propaganda machine shilling for her, and pretends she actually has half a brain. If the green new deal were honestly analyzed it would be revealed that it would be disastrous for our country.

Perhaps the greatest hour of talk radio ever broadcast was Dr. Walter Williams, filling in for Rush Limbaugh, interviewing Dr. Sowell for a solid hour.

I listened to that and shook my head. With two brilliant black men such as these, how did a putz like Obama get to be our first black POTUS?

Rush, pull that out of the archive and rerun it sometime please.

Sowell is fantastic. But he’s not gonna last forever—a shame.

Oh, she IS a media creation. That’s one of the things that makes her so dangerous. They will circle the wagons around her whenever she is threatened. Her extreme views are the same ones shared by most of the media.

I like Dr. Sowell, but as far as I recall, he’s a nevertrumper. Last time I saw him on tv, he referred to POTUS as an orange man. Maybe he’s changed his mind.

As Governor Sununu said this morning on Fox, (paraphrasing, here) Boston University needs to gut their economics department.

Google an economics professor named Richard Wolff.
He is a Marxist Socialist. He is the originator of many
of the ideas that AOC is spouting.

And he has been tenured in some of the most prestigious universities in the country. The system is compromised beyond redemption.

Pelosi got skunked. I call AOC the “Nanchurian Candidate” ©
She is getting just what Angela Lansbury got (figuratively speaking) at the end of the movie.
