California raised taxes to pay doctors for the poor—and is still waiting for them

It’s been two years since Californians voted to raise tobacco taxes so the state could pay doctors and dentists more when they treat low-income patients. But it’s unclear if the money is achieving a related purpose: getting more medical providers to accept the government’s health plan for the poor.

TOPICS: Culture/Society
KEYWORDS:
Since the tax hike kicked in, the state has collected nearly $2.5 billion in additional funds, according to the state Department of Tax and Fee Administration. Some of the money is used for other purposes such as home health programs and anti-smoking efforts.

Other purposes such as State of California public employee pension funds. Good thing all of those "migrants" swarming across the border had excellent dental care in their home countries.

no decent doctor is gonna work for a third of going wages, and many don’t want to have to screw around with Californication’s bureaucrappy to get it, either.

I think Archey Bunker’s favorite son, “Meathead” Riener, is still in charge of those taxes. I doubt that any audits have been done in the past 30 years, since he is a liberal.

They went in the general fund like all the rest. They may as well quit designating “what they want the money for” because it all ends up in the same pot anyways.

This was Tom Steyer’s ballot proposition which stupid voters passed because they hate cigarette smokers.

Those stupid, vindictive voters didn’t care where the new tax money went!

Don’t worry, CA will recoup the increases by charging the doctors and hospitals with fraudulent billing.

The providers know this and aren’t taking the bait. To quote AOC and applying her statement where it really belongs; the government, “it’s 10% better than garbage”.

Maybe... Here’s an idea....

Maybe charge the country of the patient if they are not a citizen....

Their hospitals would be rolling in dough if they had the nards to do that....

Years ago the government had a program where they’d pay we for dental school for interested parties, and in turn they’d serve a stretch on Indian reservations. They’ll do the same for urban slums and barrios; “healthcare deserts”...
