From far away it looked as if a bottle of red wine had been spilled along the icy gravel, an image Lee Litz would not soon forget.
He was test-driving a Jeep near a cornfield on the outskirts of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, when he saw it: a deep red blanket protruding from a ditch. It struck Litz as peculiar that afternoon, Feb. 28, 1981, and so he pulled the car over and stepped out into the dirt and the cold. He knelt down to see what it was, as he later recounted to the Argus Leader.
In the blanket, he found a baby - with tears frozen on his cheeks.
By the time Litz found him, the baby had been lying in the ditch for roughly 24 hours, the coroner would soon rule. The boy lived for about two hours before freezing and bleeding to death, the coroner found. His umbilical cord had not been cut. The placenta was still attached. The blanket was covered in blood.

I hear you. Amen. De Tocqueville said America would cease to be great when she ceased to be good. To be great again we have but to be good again.
God will sort the wheat from the chaff, my FRiend. This story is as heart breaking as any I’ve read in many years. As Christ said (I may be paraphrasing slightly), “What you do to the least of these you do unto Me.”
Well I’m just gonna say it. Sorry ass bitch.
It reminds me of what ancient history says about civilization around the Mediterranean, primarily the north and east, but maybe further. It is said many people didn’t want female babies as they had no value, were a burden. Those people would take new born females outside of town and throw them out in the fields to die. Christians would go out and rescue the female babies taking them into their homes and thereby gained the respect and good-will of the populace.
Who’s the “we”????
In New York today she would be a hero... and possibly receive some compensation for baby parts sold.
Whoa. I grew up in Sioux Falls. I went all through school with the husband. This is crazy. He was a quiet unassuming guy.
This story is repeated 3000 times every day, in "Planned Parenthood" and other abortuaries from sea to shining sea.
Much more than the victims of abortionists get ...
Meanwhile, abortionists walk free. Those who expose Planned Parentood's atrocities are persecuted in court.
True. What makes this somewhat more reprehensible, if that is possible, is that someone on the “outside” got to witness the evil firsthand.
More people on the “outside” should see the evil in its true form. Perhaps then it would be stopped.
This baby’s death was avenged, because he was killed on the “outside”. The cold case detectives who pursued it did a good thing.
Meanwhile, the hidden slaughter continues unavenged.
“Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord. I will repay.”
Uh boy. Wait til they realize theres been 56 million killed since then and in this country
This is another success for genetic genealogy. Once she became a suspect from her relative’s family tree, the police went through her garbage to get DNA from cigarette butts and beer cans.
So she was 19 at the time of her despicable act. Perhaps her sentence should be to beat her so she is unable to move and throw her in a ditch on a cold night in Feb. of next year. No trial necessary. I'll abandon due process for her. She needs to catch the express to hell.
The entire story was terribly tragic and sad, but the part about tears frozen on the baby’s cheeks ripped my heart out. I will NEVER understand how a person could be so monstrous to do such a thing to a sweet innocent human being.
Yes That Image of “Frozen Tears” on his cheeks made me tear up! I’ve seen many bad things but that would be the worst.
God,Please wipe his tears away!
It’s warm and snuggly where God is for this child and it will be very hot eternally for the woman if she does not repent and seek forgiveness. God’s patience is longsuffering but justice demands that righteousness must prevail. It should be sobering for us all!
