Vote to have something done and hand it over to Parliament to rubber stamp but they totally screw it up
Referenda in the UK are not in the constitution and are non-binding. They have zero legal status. Remember that, unlike the USA where the American people are sovereign; in the UK PARLIAMENT is sovereign. Parliament could legally fully ignore the referendum
